After the finale of Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 last January, housemates Riza Santos, Jon Avila, Gaby Dela Merced, Megan Young, Baron Geisler, and Mariel Rodriguez all enjoyed a upward surge in their respective careers. But for Big Winner Ruben Gonzaga, his big break is now just coming in with a role in the upcoming teleserye Humingi Ako Sa Langit to be top-billed by Judy Ann Santos.

Ruben has filled the months after the PBB with a LoveSpell episode with Jhong Hilario and Roxanne Guinoo and a Saturday co-hosting gig with Tintin Bersola-Babao in Busog Lusog, a show by ABS-CBN Foundation. ABS-CBN.com spoke with Ruben during the cast pictorial for Humingi Ako Sa Langit and the Davaoeño comedian admitted that he doesn’t feel bad that it took some time for him to get a project. “Siguro nga natagalan pero kasi dapat hintay ka lang. Hindi mo naman pwede i-push na, ‘Hoy! Bigyan niyo naman ako ng project!’ May dadating din na tamang project para sa ‘yo. May kasabihan nga na hindi mo dapat pilitin mahinog ang bunga. Dapat hintayin mo para kapag kinain mo, masarap.”

He still keeps in touch with ex-housemates Gaby, Mariel, Ethel Booba, and Yayo Aguila but only through text messages since they all have busy schedules. Ruben is also happy for his peers who are now making it big in the industry.

In Humingi Ako Sa Langit, Ruben plays a neurologist to a cancer patient to be portrayed by his PBB best bud, Will Devaughn. “Ako si Doctor Filomeno Lacson. Sobrang challenging ‘yung role kasi nga doktor. Isa akong mayabang na doktor, feeling gwapo, pero patawa pa rin. Mahilig ako sa mga babae, parang predator talaga na naglalaway sa mga girls. Pero ‘yung mga babae naman iniiwasan ako.”

For him, the most challenging part of his role is sharing scenes with young superstar Judy Ann. “Nacha-challenge ako kasi first teleserye ko ito kasi mga makakasama ko mga bigating artista. Siyempre si Ms. Judy Ann Santos ‘yan. May isa din kaming eksena na nagkasagutan kami. Abangan nila ‘yun. Tense talaga ako noong eksena na ‘yun.”
