When not acting or doing commercials, Maricar Reyes actually works as a doctor. But Maricar would rather keep her life as a general practitioner separate from the showbiz world. In an interview at the ABS-CBN Trade Launch last April 30, Maricar shared with ABS-CBN.com the fulfillment she gets from being a doctor. “There’s something different about when a sick person comes to you and then you give him something that makes him feel better. There’s no price for that.”

Maricar said that being an actress and being a doctor are both her dreams. When she was a child she would often stand in front of the mirror and imitate some scenes she would see on TV. When she learned that her brother earned big bucks after doing a commercial, she was enticed by the idea of appearing in front of the camera and getting paid.

From appearing in print ads and TV commercials, Maricar crossed over to acting via a guest role in I Love Betty La Fea playing the childhood love of John Lloyd Cruz. Maricar talked about the excitement and the pressure the felt when she taped her scenes opposite John Lloyd. “Crush ko rin si John Lloyd. I find him attractive. There’s something sa mga mata niya na attractive. He’s really nice to work with. When he comes in the set medyo tahimik siya especially when he’s preparing for a scene. Surprisingly after a while humihirit na siya. Joker din pala siya. Sobrang pressure nga lang ‘yung naramdaman ko that time. Ayokong mapahiya, ayokong maging cause of delay kaya I really made sure na I deliver well sa bawat eksena ko.”

Because of her appearance in Betty, she landed the role of leading lady to Vhong Navarro and Luis Manzano in the upcoming superserye Isang Lakas. But until that show hits the small screen, Maricar will play Sandy, the wife of Ahron Villena in the new afternoon series Precious Hearts Romances presents Bud Brothers. She told ABS-CBN.com how happy she was to be included in the cast of Bud Brothers. “I feel so privileged that after Betty I now have Precious Hearts Romances. I’m just new in showbiz and I’ve been told that it’s not very easy to get follow up projects that’s why I’m so happy. From a guest appearance in Betty now I’m part of the main cast na ng Bud Brothers. I’m thankful.”

This pretty and smart lady has been single for almost three years now, although she confessed she was dating a non-showbiz guy she met through a common friend. “Actually hindi ko nga alam, I don’t know how to define the relationship. Wala naman akong dine-date other than him. I don’t believe in dating many men at the same time. Magka-text kami matagal na prior to when we started going out formally. But now we seldom see each other because we’re both busy. He runs a business. I don’t want to give the impression that we’re very serious. We’re just hanging out, enjoying each others’ company”

Maricar further shared that she loves that fact that she and this guy like so many things in common. For her, having similar interests is important in a relationship. “Dun talaga ako naa-attract sa isang guy, ‘yung nakakasundo ko. Of course physically gusto ko matangkad, gwapo, but at the end of the day kapag hindi naman kayo magkasundo bale wala rin. We’re both sports fans. We don’t actually play, but we talk about sports like swimming, biking, running.”
