Jaymee Joaquin reveals why she left Games Uplate Live

Jaymee Joaquin admitted that she left Games Uplate Live (GUL) because she wanted to try something new. “I’ve been doing GUL for two and a half years. I didn’t renew my contract this year anymore because I feel like everyone just knows me as the midnight game show girl. I just can’t be that girl forever. I’m the type who wants change all the time,” she shared in an interview with ABS-CBN.com. However, she did admit that misses interacting every night with her wide range of fans.

The fact that her social life also suffered because of her work schedule was also one of the factors why she had to quit. “Napagod na rin ako e. It’s a fun job but it’s not very easy to talk nonstop every midnight with no social life at all. I think if it’s in an earlier timeslot I could have stayed longer. Actually 10 or 11 pm pwede pa e. Kaso sobrang late na kadalasan umeere ang GUL. Tapos after the show I’m still very much hyper. So bago bumaba energy ko, mga 4 or 5 am pa so dun pa lang ako nakakatulog,” she related.

After she left GUL, Jaymee traveled to and around Australia for quite some time and realized that she would love to migrate there someday. “I travel a lot and so far Italy and Australia are the two countries I really fell in love with.  Life in Australia is just so laidback. I think it would be a great place to live in because they have mountains, beach life, and it’s a melting pot. I like the diversity.  Given a chance I’d take up my masters degree in Communications and Media in the University of Sydney or University of South Wales. I’m planning to apply next year,” she revealed.

When asked if she’s willing to give up her showbiz career, Jaymee explained that it’s really important to have a fallback if Star Magic’s plans for her won’t work out. “Eventually I’ll find a good time to do it. Showbiz has a shelf life e. Unless you’re doing movies and drama, which in my case, I’m more of a sexy host ‘di ba? The only project that will make me stay is a good talk show. Like a Tyra Banks kind of talk show, so anything about hosting women empowerment stuff.”

ABS-CBN.com found out that she wouldn’t really have a hard time adjusting to a new life because Jaymee is an adventurer by heart. As a matter of fact, she prefers to travel alone because there are many places she wants to explore that bringing a friend with her would only limit. “I travel alone most of the time. I traveled with someone once or twice dahil niyaya nila ako. Pero if I plan a trip, it’s just me. Kasi when I travel I don’t make plans. I just book my flight going there and back. So pagdating ko, dun ko pa lang fini-figure out what to do. Para siyang Amazing Race in real life pero walang time constraint,” she gushed.

Apparently, Jaymee takes after her dad who happens to be a born traveler as well. “According to my Lolo and Lola, my dad just disappears out of the blue. Would you believe at nine years old, he left their house for five days. And when he came back, he told them that he went to Cebu. Yung bahay kasi ng lola ko malapit sa Pier. Pumunta siya dun, nakatsika niya mga nagwowork sa barko. Tapos bigla na lang siyang niyaya na sumama sa biyahe nila that time tapos binalik din siya after five days. Nakakaloka ‘di ba?” she fondly recalled.

It’s a good thing that her mom has gotten used to her adventurous streak she doesn’t worry about her as much whenever she goes out of the country alone. “I travel at least twice a year. So hindi siya nakakatulog ‘pag wala ako. Sabi nga niya, ‘Ayan, ganyan ka, nagmana ka sa tatay mo.’ I am adventurous that’s why I never commit. I easily get bored. I’ve been single for a long time. Puro date date lang ako over the years. There are times when I get lonely and I ask why. But I know now that maybe because I’m meant to live somewhere else someday. And maybe I’ll meet the right person there,” she concluded.
