There was a time Rafael Rosell used to be so mad at his ex-girlfriend Malaya Lewandowski who supposedly got involved with another guy while they were still together early this year. When ABS-CBN.com caught up with Rafael during the press con of Ang Darling Kong Aswang, he casually mentioned that Malaya just got married to the same guy who allegedly caused their breakup. “We didn’t end up with each other kasi may nag-interfere na third party e. Yun ang naging asawa niya. Pinoy siya. Hindi siya showbiz. Happy naman ako para sa kanya (Malaya) kasi alam kong yun ang gusto niya e.”
Looking back, he believed that breaking up with Malaya was the right thing for them to do since he’s not ready to settle down anytime soon. “No, hindi ko mao-offer sa kanya ang lifetime commitment. As of now hindi pa ako ready. So blessing na rin yun nangyari. I didn’t look at it that way when it happened. I thought it was something bad. Pero over time, we all realize na everything happens for a reason. God has a way of taking something from you and replacing it with something better,” he stated.
Rafael is happy with the way his showbiz career is going, especially now that he has a lead role in Precious Hearts Romances (PHR) Presents Midnight Phantom as well as a part in the movie Ang Darling Kong Aswang. “I feel honored of course kasi pinagkatiwalaan ako ng Big Dream Productions na makasama ulit sa PHR after Bud Brothers. This time tungkol sa aming dalawa lang ito ng leading lady ko na si Denise Laurel. At the same time, I’m a little pressured na sana panoorin ng mga tao.”
Of all his accomplishments this year, Rafael said that playing the role of a drug pusher in the indie film Tulak is the one that he treasures the most. “It was such an achievement kasi kakaiba siyang experience. It was something the commercial industry wouldn’t allow me to portray. I learned so much from the research. I attended kasi the Narcotics Anonymous for character study. Akala ko madadatnan ko dun puro mga mahihirap na nagsha-shabu or nagra-rugby pero may mga mayayaman din pala. So walang pinipili talaga ang droga. I also learned na it’s one of our biggest problems sa Pilipinas and PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) is also doing everything they can para maayos yun,” he related.
Rafael said he wants to do offbeat roles since they would really challenge his ability as an actor. “Tatlo kasi ang nasa checklist ko. Gusto ko demonyo, drug addict, tapos psycho. So next year goal ko siguro yung pyscho kasi na-try ko na maging demonyo sa Susan Cinematic Collection Presents Maligno. Kung may offer ako na maging pyscho, game ako,” he stated.
