Dina Bonnevie says she’ll quit showbiz for the sake of love
by Manila P. Santos | January 30, 2009 9:28 AM |

Even though she’s busy handling her telecom business, Dina Bonnevie has decided to accept a role in the upcoming Primetime Bida series May BukasPa. The veteran actress was last seen regularly on the Kapamilya network in the 2007 series Sineserye Presents: Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos? and Walang Kapalit. “I feel happy. Actually parang na-o-overwhelm ako. Hindi ko iniisip na parang interesado pa rin sila na kunin ako because alam naman nila na nag-o-opisina ako. I’ve gone to the corporate world and I’m like really busy. And when an offer like May BukasPa comes along na talagang it’s nice because it’s about God,” she shared during the May Bukas Pa presscon held last January 29 at the ABS-CBN compound.

The actress, who recently celebrated her birthday, couldn’t help but share her only birthday wish. “Lord, bigyan mo naman ako ng partner, yung for life na talaga. Wish ko is to have a real partner in life and that this soap will touch the hearts of many people,” she declares. The divine Ms. D, as she is known in showbiz circles, admits that she would easily give up showbiz if that is what it takes to find love. “Kung kaya ba niya akong sustentohan eh. Pero if he’ll ask me to quit tapos hindi niya ako kayang sustentohan, wait a minute. Dapat pumayag siya na maging corporate person ako. Kung pumayag siya na corporate ako, eh ‘di okay. Quitting showbiz is okay lang sa akin kasi I plan everything. Parang I don’t have to prove anything, for me, it’s icing on the cake. Parang you’re made na. Ang dami mo nang nagawa, ang dami mong awards. Now, I have something to prove in the corporate world. But as far as movies and TV, I have nothing to prove. Parang nagawa ko na lahat,” she says.

Although the actress would not divulge the exact status of her love life at the moment, she shares that she and son Oyo Boy Sotto are both praying for the right life partner. “Yes I’m happy. With or without a boyfriend, happy ako. Like si Oyo, ganun, pareho kami. Parang nag-vow kami na wala munang boyfriend-girlfriend. Basta yung next [na darating], yun na yun. Na talagang God’s choice na. Pareho kaming nag-promise na the next one will be God’s choice na talaga. Basta we’re both praying about it. Tapos kung yung nandiyan sa paligid, yun talaga, eh ‘di yun. Pero kung hindi, eh ‘di hindi. But we’re patiently waiting for God’s answers,” she explains.

Dina also shares that she feels that being an actress has made it harder for her to find the right man. “Kasi parang inisip ko minsan din ang showbiz ang reason kung bakit hindi ka makahanap ng partner eh. Kasi chances are the guys get so insecure. Kasi nasa bahay na siya, ikaw wala pa. Tapos mas malaki yung suweldo mo sa kanya. Plus everywhere you go people recognize you. Paano naman siya? Wala ba siyang pangalan? Yun palaging nagiging issue sa akin, parang how come everybody’s greeting you, nobody knows my name, parang you’re earning more. So siyempre ang guy, is parang prone to insecurity talaga. Nakakaapekto ng relasyon so sabi ko, siguro dapat maging simple na lang akong tao. Siguro that time I’ll find someone. Kung ganyan ka, tingnan mo how many people are up there na super famous ang nakakahanap ng tahimik na relasyon. Siguro makakhanap ka and then wala na naman. Ang hirap eh. Unless your partner is from show business and truly understands your schedule. Eh wala na akong hilig sa mga taga-showbiz eh. Puro labas sa showbiz,” she confesses.
