Sharon Cuneta will support Senator Francis Pangilinan over Governor Vilma Santos |

As early as now, politicos have been announcing their plans to run for public office in the coming 2010 National Elections. One man that has been consistently asked about his 2010 plans is Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. At the April 27 press conference of her movie Best Friends Forever, Senator Kiko’s wife, Sharon Cuneta was asked if the Senator would be running for Vice President in the coming election. “Yes. It makes me very scared and excited at the same time,” the Megastar confirmed.
In the meantime, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, a long-time friend of Sharon’s, has yet to give in to requests that she run for the VP position. With this possibility still open, Sharon was asked what would she do in the event that her husband and her close friend would compete for the VP seat. “Is she (Gov. Vilma) running for VP? I think Ate Vi naman is not only an actress, not only a politician, she’s also a wife. Also I think if we were very close and we turn it around, that I ran for the same position that Ralph (Recto, Gov. Vilma’s husband) is running for, of course hindi ko naman ie-expect na ako ang kampihan niya. Mali ‘yun. Dapat dun siya sa asawa niya. Ilang beses nang may mga nagi-interview sa asawa ko. 2001 pa siya senador, 13 years na kaming married, 15 years together. Ano daw masasabi niya na kumakampanya ako para sa kanya, na ginagamit lang niya ako? Natawa na lang siya at sinabi niya na, ‘13 years na kaming mag-asawa. Mas magagalit naman ako kung hindi niya ako ikakampanya. Asawa ko siya!’ (laughs). Tama nga naman ‘yun. I think tama lang na if Ate Vi runs, it doesn’t take a genius to understand na dapat lang dun ako sa asawa ko. Pero manghihinayang ako kasi kahit sinong kaibigan ko ang tumakbo, sana pwedeng hati-hatiin ‘yung katawan ko para suportahan silang lahat.”
Sharon and Senator Kiko, who celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary on April 28, have been blessed with two daughters, Frankie and Miel, plus Sharon’s eldest KC Concepcion. The Megastar revealed that she is clueless about her husband’s plans for the wedding anniversary. “Kwento ko na lang sa inyo after kasi hindi ko rin alam kung ano ang mangyayari. Surprise… sa akin! (laughs). Wala pang naibibigay [ng regalo]. Surprise yata lahat. Tomorrow he’ll whisk me off to, I don’t know where. Ang request ko lang pwede kasama ang mga bata basta sa kabilang room sila (laughs).”
For now, the Megastar will be busy promoting Best Friends Forever where she stars opposite Ai-Ai de las Alas. Sharon revealed that she will be doing two other films this year apart from the one that has long been planned for her and Gov. Vilma. The Megastar could not be more excited about working for the first time with Gov. Vilma who she considers as her greatest idol. “I think all actors we all have dreams as to kung sino ang gusto nating makatrabaho. It’s a common knowledge naman na Vilmanian ako ever since. I was never treated in a bad way by Ate Vi. I also learned a lot from her about…how to be a good idol (laughs). ‘Yung pakikisama sa tao at ‘yung pag-appreciate sa kanila and also ‘yung attitude towards them. Hindi lang basta utang na loob pa nila na fans mo sila. Working with Ate Vi is one of my greatest dreams. ‘Yung isa is working with Tito Dolphy. ‘Yung kay Ai-Ai naman natupad na and this one is a comedy. ‘Yung sa amin ni Ate Vi is going to be drama. That will come maybe next year.”
