Melissa Ricks is considered one of the prettiest young faces in showbiz. Gifted with the looks and the height of ramp model, Melissa has been linked to some of her male co-stars who have wanted the chance to date her. ABS-CBN.com learned that about two years ago, her Kambal Sa Uma co-star Jason Abalos had tried to court her. At the ABS-CBN Trade Launch last April 30, Melissa spoke exclusively with ABS-CBN.com about her past with Jason. “Matagal na ‘yun (laughs). Hindi natuloy. Friends naman kami ngayon so walang problema.” Melissa seemed to have been embarrassed by the question because Jason was just a couple of feet away during the interview.

But Melissa clarified that she never rejected Jason during the courtship. “Hindi ko siya binasted. Hindi naman umabot sa ganun. Siguro inuna lang namin ‘yung trabaho. Tsaka mga bata pa kami noon. Ngayon we both figured na mas okay na naging friends lang kami.”

The past caused a little discomfort between Melissa and Jason as they shot scenes together for their latest afternoon teleserye Kambal Sa Uma. Melissa admitted that during their first taping day, she and Jason felt a bit uneasy with each other, but they managed to stay professional and are now good friends. “Hindi naman namin napag-uusapan ‘yung nangyari. Kapag nagtatrabaho kami okay naman kami. I admit noong una may ilangan pero nawala naman agad. I don’t know, siguro ganun lang talaga.” Since they are both single at the moment, is it possible for romance to spark as they work together more often? “Mas okay na friends na lang kami,” Melissa answered with a laugh.

But as the story of Kambal Sa Uma progresses, Melissa’s main leading man will be her frequent onscreen partner Matt Evans. After first starring together in Komiks presents Pedro Penduko, the two have done a string of shows on ABS-CBN which include Your Song Presents Sayang Na Sayang and Underage and the primetime teleserye Iisa Pa Lamang. Although fans have been speculating that romance is blossoming between the two, Melissa and Matt have said time and again they are just friends. Melissa told ABS-CBN.com that she is in no rush to have boyfriend. “Darating ‘yan sa tamang panahon. Kapag dumating e ‘di good pero kapag hindi e ‘di okay lang. Ganun talaga. Bata pa naman ako.”
