Rafael Rosell and Mariel Rodriguez’s team-up in Precious Hearts Romances presents Bud Brothers has been one of the most awaited pairings in the series. Their characters, Wayne and Betchay, recently had recurring appearances in the afternoon teleserye.
In an interview by ABS-CBN.com on the set of Bud Brothers, Rafael thanked viewers who enjoyed his on-screen tandem with Mariel. He said that he enjoyed working with the beautiful and bubbly Mariel. “Good friends kami ni Mariel. It’s fun to be with her. I’m always in a good mood kapag kasama siya sa set. Sobrang full of energy kami pareho and nakakatulong ‘yun lalo na kapag puyat o pagod na kami.”
It’s public knowledge that Mariel is romantically involved with Zanjoe Marudo, a good friend of Rafael from the Coverboys. Rafael told ABS-CBN.com that he had talked to Zanjoe and Mariel prior to the shoot of Bud Brothers and that Zanjoe was okay with Mariel doing kissing and love scenes with Rafael in the teleserye. “They’re both okay with it and pareho naman silang artista so they know that it’s just work. Sabi nga ni Mariel, ‘Si Zanjoe rin naman ginagawa niya sa iba ‘yan so wala siyang karapatang magselos! ha ha ha!’”
Given that they’re comfortable with each other as friends, Rafael said it was just easy for him and Mariel to do the required love scene. “Madali lang naman ‘yung love scene. Si Mariel she’s easy to work with, wala naman siyang kaartehan. Hindi rin naman ako maarte. For me work is work.”
There was one scene though when, after sleeping together in the same bed, Mariel wakes up with her hand resting on Rafael’s crotch. The actor-model revealed that he was shock when Direk Cathy Garcia Molina told him what was going to happen. “Nagulat nga ako kasi ang nakasulat lang sa libro and sa script e ‘awkward position.’ Pagdating namin sa set nakahiga na sa kama si Direk Cathy and dine-demo na niya ‘yung eksena. Shocked kami ni Mariel kasi naisip namin pwede bang ipalabas ‘yun sa afternoon. Pero ginawa naman nilang mabilis lang para hindi masita ng MTRCB. It was a funny scene nga e, hindi naman bastos. Swak naman sa characters nina Wayne and Betchay.”
He added that it did not take much convincing for him and Mariel to do the scene. “Tinanong ko si Mariel kung okay lang, sabi niya okay lang and wala naman magagalit. Ganun din naman ako. Pagkatapos na lang nung ma-preview namin tsaka na lang kami na-shock. Marami ring na-shock pero in general okay naman ‘yung feedback.”
The 26-year-old part-Norwegian hunk shared that he had learned to be professional with his co-actors especially when there’s a love scene that needs to be done. “When they call ‘cut’ dapat wala nang texting afterwards, trying to hit on the girl. Ang rule ko kasi e work is work, whatever you do outside of work it’s up to you but make sure it doesn’t affect your work. I’ve experienced na rin kasi some actors who say, ‘Naka-kissing scene ko si ganitong girl.’ Tapos liligawan nila. Ang pangit nun. Be professional. Work is work.”
