'May Bukas Pa' brings hope to Barangay Bagong Pag-asa
by Napoleon Quintos | July 04, 2009 9:34 PM |

The cast and production team of May Bukas Pa visited the residents of Sitio San Roque, Barangay Bagong Pag-asa in Quezon City last June 29 to extend help to the families who were affected by a fire on the night of June 27. With the help of ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya, stars Albert Martinez, Tonton Gutierrez, Dominic Ochoa, Lito Pimentel, Ogie Diaz, Zaijian “Santino” Jaranilla, and other cast members and directors Jerome Pobocan and Jojo Saguin helped in the distribution of food to three hundred selected children ages four to 12.

But more than the food, it was the presence of “Santino” and the other stars that delighted the children and other residents of Barangay Bagong Pag-asa. “Nakakatuwa na kahit papaano ay nakakapagbigay kami ng konting kaligayahan,” said Albert. Incidentally, the place bears the same name as the fictitious town in May Bukas Pa.

This was the first time that a teleserye had tied up with Sagip Kapamilya for an outreach program. Menchie Silvestre from Sagip Kapamilya said that the people of May Bukas Pa have done a lot for the residents of Bagong Pag-asa. “Blessing talaga para sa amin ang mga ganitong pagkakataon. More than providing the food, yung saya talaga na naibigay ng buong grupo yung important din.”

May Bukas Pa is continuously enjoying high ratings and is consistently the most watched show across the country. This teleserye is said to have come at the right time to give inspiration and hope to people in this time of crisis. Zaijan, the child actor who plays the central character Santino, gave this message to the people of Bagong Pag-asa. “Lagi po kayong magdasal kay Bro dahil laging May Bukas Pa.”
