The cast and crew of May Bukas Pa went to the wake of the late Corazon Aquino at Manila Cathedral last August 3 to pay their respects to the former president. ABS-CBN.com spoke with some of the stars during the show’s thanksgiving press con that happened on the same day to get their thoughts on the death of the icon of freedom and democracy.
Dominic Ochoa
“The thing we should be thankful for is hindi na siya nahirapan nang matagal at ngayon she’s with the Lord na. Also the family, hindi na rin sila mahihirapan sa kalagayan ni Tita Cory. I live near Ayala Avenue so nakita ko ‘yung parade at ‘yung madaming tao nakikiramay. While driving I actually stopped to say a short prayer for Tita Cory. ‘Yung ganung dami ng tao I hope will serve as an inspiration to all of us na sa buhay natin ay sana makapag-iwan tayo ng legacy bago tayo mamatay. ‘Yun lang naman ang misyon nating lahat sa buhay, to touch more lives as possible through love. At least ngayon naging mas handa sila.
Precious Lara Quigaman
“Sobrang nakakalungkot pero sabi nga ‘di ba, ‘There’s a time for everything.’ Siguro nga it’s time na rin na makapagpahinga si Tita Cory. Kahit masakit our only consolation is we all know na ngayon she’s with the Lord na. When I heard the news I texted Ate Kris (Aquino) and I said I’ve been through the same experience. When my dad died, kahit sabihin sa akin ng mga tao na, ‘Okay lang ‘yan’ hindi pa rin okay e. Masakit na mawalan ng magulang.”
Rayver Cruz
Albert Martinez
The actor, who starred with Kris in the horrorserye Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara, immediately sent his condolences to the actress after he heard the news about Mrs. Aquino’s death. “When I heard the news, I immediately texted Kris to give my condolences. It’s good that all of us (in May Bukas Pa) will be going to the wake para makiramay sa family nila. It’s so sad na wala na ‘yung leader who led the restoration of democracy sa bansa natin. Nawalan tayo ng isang pillar of democracy.”
Maja Salvador
Maja co-starred with Kris in the blockbuster horror flick Sukob in 2006. The young actress is also a cousin of Kris’s eldest son Joshua. Iba ‘yung tiwalang ibinigay ng mga Pilipino sa kanya over the years.
Dina Bonnevie
Dina and Kris became very close when they starred in the teleserye Hiram. Dina said that she felt proud of Kris for staying her mom’s side up until the end. “I actually wanted to visit Kris since Friday but unfortunately I was out of town. I feel sad for Kris because we all know na somehow favorite siya ni Tita Cory, the two of them shared a different bond. At the same time I am very proud of Kris because through it all she stayed by her mother’s side. She was very brave to weather the storm and keep her head up high despite all the hurt and pain. I really consider Tita Cory’s death a big loss to our country. She is called the ‘mother of democracy.’ She just didn’t talk about democracy but she showed it through her actions. I think she is the only president who remained untainted until the end.”
