Maricel Soriano is set to make her much awaited return to primetime TV via Florinda, the third installment in the Susan Roces Cinema Collection series, which co-stars Roxanne Guinoo and Nikki Gil. At the mini-press conference for Florinda, Roxanne Guinoo and Nikki Gil talked about their experiences working with the Diamond Star. The 23-year-old Star Circle Quest alum plays younger sister to Maricel who portrays the title role Florinda.
Nikki revealed that she immediately accepted the supporting role in Florinda when she heard she would get to work with Maricel. Nikki shared that when she was four-years old, she made a short appearance in the actress’s former program Maricel Drama Special and acted opposite the Diamond Star and Cherry Pie Picache. The young actress said she was star stuck upon meeting Maricel and Cherry Pie again for Florinda. “Ang dami mong matututunan with the veteran actors like Ate Mary and Ate Cherry Pie. While waiting on the set makakakwentuhan mo sila about anything, not just acting. The singer/TV host/MYX VJ plays the daughter of Cherry Pie who is a helper in Maricel’s family in the mini-series.
Nikki added that Maricel, who has been acting since she was six, is a perfectionist when it comes to her craft. “Sa mga seasoned actors you will learn the importance of knowing your lines upon arriving on the set. Ganun sila ka-ready, tipong pagdating nila wala nang reading, take na agad and alam na nila ‘yung pag-arte kasi pinag-aralan na nila ‘yung script. Si Ate Mary ‘take one’ actress ‘yan.
Roxanne added that even though Maricel’s a multi-awarded actress who commands much respect, she makes an effort to support to her co-stars. Basta give and take lang.
Florinda director Rahyan Carlos revealed that since a suspense-thriller has many technical requirements, there was an instance when he demanded a “take two” from “take one” actress Maricel which led to a disagreement. Fortunately, it was easily ironed out and he and Maricel eventually had a friendly working relationship. Na-cut ko ‘yung eksena, sabi ko mag-take two. Nagulat siya, tanong niya ‘Bakit may take two?!’ I explained na I needed two units of acting from her habang bumababa ng hagdan. One is for ‘yung bumababa siya mula sakwartoni Roxanne, two is for ‘yung tingin niya kay William (Martinez). I demanded for it and in fairness ibinigay naman niya. Perfectionist kasi talaga si Maricel. Minsan siya na ‘yung nagsasabi sa akin, ‘Direk gusto mo take four pa?’ then magtatawanan na kami.”
Florinda also stars Cherry Pie Picache, Jay Manalo, William Martinez, Zanjoe Marudo, Pooh, and Carla Martinez. Watch this suspense thriller beginning September 7 on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.
