Roxanne Guinoo is happy to be back on primetime television with Florinda finally premiering on September 7. With Maricel Soriano in the title role, the third installment in the Susan Roces Cinema Collection series was shot over a year ago, but had to delay airing to give way to Maricel’s other horror project, the Star Cinema movie T2.
At the mini-press conference for Florinda, Roxanne said that her role as Maricel’s younger sister is different from the characters she has done in the past. “Kakaibang Roxanne ‘yung makikita niyo dito kasi rebelde ako dito. Marami ring twists sa relasyon nina Florinda who is Tita Maria and si Rachelle, ako nga ‘yung kapatid niya. Kung ano lang ‘yung mga ginawa ko for my past roles, kabaliktaran nun ang ginawa ko para sa role ko dito sa Florinda na rebelde. Sa tulong na rin ng aming napakagaling na direktor kaya hindi naman naging mahirap ‘yung trabaho naming lahat na gampanan ng mahusay ‘yung mga roles namin.”
In Florinda, Roxanne took on the challenge to deliver a more convincing performance in a suspense thriller mini-series. “Ibang-iba ang acting lalo na ang iyak for drama at for horror. Buti na lang nandiyan si Direk Rahyan (Carlos, director of Florinda) who is an actor’s director. Suki na niya ako sa workshops ng ABS-CBN. Tinuturuan talaga niya kami sa tamang atake sa bawat eksenang kukunan namin. Kapag iiyak ka sa drama pwede mong gamitin ‘yung mga past experiences mo para i-motivate mo ang sarili mo na maiyak. Pero kaunti lang sa atin ang may horror experience kaya mahirap turuan ‘yung sarili mong umiyak dahil may nakikita kang nakakatakot.”
The 23-year-old Star Circle Quest alum has played lead in two previous teleseryes, namely Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos? and Ligaw Na Bulaklak. Roxanne was last seen as Luis Manzano’s leading lady in Komiks presents Mars Ravelo’s Flash Bomba. Though she hasn’t been on TV much after Flash Bomba ended, Roxanne believes that Star Magic has other good plans for her. “Sa industriya naman natin, lalo na dito sa Dos hindi naman lahat ng artista dito sunod-sunod ang project. May panahong mapapahinga ka rin kasi ‘yung iba naman ‘yung pagbibigyan. Blessing na lalabas na itong Florinda kasi at least mapapanood ako sa primetime kahit four weeks lang. Hindi naman ako mapili sa trabaho dahil sa ayaw ko lang. Tinitingnan ko ‘yung mga roles na kaya kong gawin.”
She also defended herself against rumors of her being a “pasaway” as the reason for the lack of offers. At the said mini-press conference, Roxanne got a little emotional while she tried to put the issue to rest. “Natatakot ako sa mga taong gustong humila sa akin pababa. Ang gusto ko lang naman e magtrabaho dito sa showbiz kasi gusto ko ‘yung ginagawa ko. Tao lang naman ako na nasasaktan. Pero hindi ako sinanay ng mga magulang ko na maging bastos. Kung makita niyo akong malungkot o emosyonal kasi ‘yun talaga ang nararamdaman ko, hindi ko mako-control ‘yun. Magpapaliwanag lang ako para i-defend ‘yung sarili ko pero hindi ko ugaling mambastos nang harapan.”
