Shaina Magdayao says she’s not out to compete with Maja Salvador and Erich Gonzales
by ABS-CBN.com | October 01, 2009 8:27 AM |

Shaina Magdayao is in no rush to be given a solo project and does not want to feel pressured that her contemporaries like Maja Salvador and Erich Gonzales already have their own launching teleseryes. “Of course I’m hoping, but walang maliit o walang malaking role,” she explains. “As long as I believe dun sa project at sa character na pino-portray ko, go na go talaga ako. Walang problema doon as long as mamahalin ko ‘yung character ko, go na go ako.”

The Kambal sa Uma star said that she just feels fortunate that she continuously gets good projects. “More than being choosy, siguro I should just be thankful na I’ve been in the business for a long time and hindi ako nawawalan ng project.” As a matter of fact, Shaina is already working on her next teleserye, the Pinoy adaptation of the Mexicanovela Rubi, with Angelica Panganiban and Jake Cuenca.

She also stressed that she would rather work her way up slowly rather than be an overnight success. “Kasi when you’re up there, there is no [other] way but down. Nakakatakot din eh. You have to make the right choices, sobrang pressure ‘yun. So right now, slowly but surely [lang ako],” she shared.

Since Maja and Erich have taken on sexier images, Shaina admitted that while she is open to the possibility of taking the same path, she won’t do so until the right project comes along. “I’m game with anything pero right now, give them the spotlight. It’s their time… So kung may projects—and I’m very thankful na meronsiguro I would just do my best. Pero ‘yung competition it’s for others.”

The younger sister of Vina Morales shared that she has never been the competitive type, for fear that it might only bring out the worst in her. “I compete with myself. ‘Yun ang lagi kong sinasabi kasi ‘pag inisip mo ‘yan, kakainin ka ng insecurity mo, eh. And it’s not healthy. It won’t help you at all. It will only make you focus on the negative,” she says.
