Kris Aquino maintains she is still friends with Joseph Estrada

Kris Aquino said that she is proud that brother Noynoy Aquino’s new campaign commercial—a music video—was able to bring together celebrities from rival networks. All the celebs in question also agreed to do the video free of charge. “I’m so proud of the fact that Noy’s video has the best of both networks. They dedicated their services to Noy because they believed in him,” she said during the November 3 press conference of her latest endorsement. Kris revealed that there will be a second version of the music video which will feature more stars who support Noynoy’s political campaign.

Meanwhile, the host-actress clarified that there is no ill will between her and former president Joseph Estrada who supposedly made the observation that ABS-CBN was favoring Noynoy as the top candidate for the 2010 presidential election. Estrada, who has announced his intention to run for presidency as well, has a movie with the Kapamilya network, Ang Tanging Pamilya, with Ai-Ai de las Alas. The Star Cinema movie is Estrada’s comeback film after more than two decades since his last movie.

“Whether you believe it or not, we still have good relations with him,” Kris said. “In fact, manonood kami ng sisters ko ng movie nila ni Ai-Ai because it’s Ai-Ai’s birthday.”  Kris even joked that she will find out if Estrada has a grudge against her if he gives her a cold shoulder treatment during the premiere night.

Kris revealed that Estrada continues to send them fruits, very much like the time Kris’s mom Cory Aquino lay ill at the hospital. “You know regularly, he (Estrada) sends us fruits pa rin. Kasi dati, the whole time mom was sick, every week nagpapadala siya. Tapos last week lang nagpadala siya sa amin ng peaches, ponkans, and grapes."

Estrada was supposed to appear on The Buzz  two Sundays ago but the actor-politician failed to show up due to health reasons. Kris, who is a co-host for the show, denied that she was the reason for his absence. “Baka it’s not about us, but another issue about the movie. Baka meron silang issue doon. Baka he really was not feeling well kaya ayaw niya,” she explained.  “As far as my family is concerned and he is concerned, the communication lines remain open. Pero parang wala naman. Kasi kung ayaw na niya talaga sa ‘min ‘di wala nang fruits.”

Kris further clarified that Estrada had always treated former president Cory Aquino with respect, from the time he was a senator up to the death of the her mom. “Parang he treated our mother very well, eh. Sa amin siguro ‘yun ang pinakamahalaga. We still really like him and so far naman hindi naman niya inaatake si Noy,” Kris said.
