John Lloyd Cruz is Gawad Tanglaw’s Best Actor for 2010

John Lloyd Cruz was obviously not feeling well when ABS-CBN.com visited him on the set of Miss You Like Crazy last January 28. As a matter of fact, Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina already cancelled their shoot that night because John Lloyd really needed time to rest. But when we finally got to interview him, John Lloyd happily shared the news that he won as Best Actor in the 2010 Gawad Tanglaw Awards. “Surprisingly, napasama tayo this year sa mga ino-honor ng Gawad Tanglaw kaya una sa lahat gusto ko magpasalamat sa lahat ng institusyon na bumubuo at nagtataguyod ng Gawad Tanglaw. Maraming salamat po dahil nabigyan ni’yo ng magandang parangal yung ginawa namin saIn My Life especially yung character ni Noel,” he began.

The actual awarding ceremony is still a few weeks away but John Lloyd already heard about it from one of his avid fans. He couldn’t help but be proud of what he achieved since it’s only his third time to be given a Best Actor Award for his big screen projects. “Siyempre talagang I was beaming with pride and happiness kasi nung nabasa ko yung text na yun, sobrang wala sa isip ko yungIn My Life or any awards na papasok ngayong taon.” His victory really boosted his morale especially since he has been feeling a lot of pressure ever since he started filming Miss You Like Crazy. “Sabi ko nga everyday we're filming tapos on vacant days meron kang ginagawang iba. Tapos titigil ka para magbasa ng text message, makikita mo, ‘Uy, nanalo ka pala.’ Kahit papano gumagaan yung pakiramdam mo,” he explained.

The multitalented actor also noted that In My Life received other awards, including Best Director for Olive Lamasan, Best Actress for Vilma Santos, and Best Supporting Actor for Luis Manzano. “Kapag nanalo ako at hindi nanalo si Ate Vi parang ang hirap naman tanggapin yung parangal,” said John Lloyd who expressed his unending gratitude to ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and the people who supported their film. “If you remember ito yung panahon ng Ondoy so hindi madali para sa mga kababayan natin dahil lahat apektado ‘di ba? Kaya napakaganda na sa kabila ng nangyaring sakuna, alam ko for 2009 pumangalawa sa You Changed My Life (his movie with Sarah Geronimo) yungIn My Lifekaya nakakatuwa talaga.”

Since a lot of his fans can hardly wait for him to return to primetime TV, ABS-CBN.com also asked if there’s any update about his upcoming teleserye with Angel Locsin. “Kung susundan ko yung timetable na binibigay ng management at Star Cinema, dapat siyang mangyari a few months after this movie. I’m really looking forward to work with Angel. Matagal na rin siyang nasa ABS-CBN pero parang ang layo-layo niya dahil ‘di ko pa siya nakakatrabaho. But now, this is my chance, hindi ko na papakawalan. Bukod dun, excited ako magbalik-telebisyon kasi matagal na rin akong hindi nagte-teleserye,” he concluded.
