Based on the international reality talent show franchise comes Pilipinas Got Talent, the newest program in search of that gifted Pinoy worthy of the two million peso grand cash prize and a chance at stardom. PGT’s first stop was Cebu, and hosts Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano introduced us to Visayan contestants who all think they have what it takes to win the competition.
Before bagging the top prize, the contestants have to first perform in front of the Big Three Judges, namely Ai-Ai de las Alas, Kris Aquino, and Freddie M. Garcia. Kris, who is known as the “Queen of All Media,” said that as a judge she is looking for that “star quality” before she gives her approval. Meanwhile, Ai-Ai recalled her humble beginnings as a bar singer and stand up comedian and her eventual rise to the Comedy Queen of Philippine showbiz status.
On the other hand, former ABS-CBN President and Chief Executive Officer Freddie Garcia definitely has the eye for excellence. He was instrumental in the success of the Kapamilya network for the past 20 years with all the top-rating and innovative programs.
The Big Three have all such high standards, hence there were a number of contestants in Cebu who failed to make the cut. The first one to get a ‘Yes’ from the judges was the group of “grandmoms” who danced to the tune of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.” which earned them a standing ovation. Another all-male dance group showcased their unique fuse of hip-hop and acrobatics to win applause from Ai-Ai, Kris, and FMG. Also a ballroom dancing pair interpreted a well-loved ballad, a performance which FMG called fantastic.
Pilipinas Got Talent is set to find more spectacular performers, this time around from Kapamilyas in Mindanao for the audition in Cagayan De Oro. PGT airs at 8:30 pm. Also, join Marc Abaya for a behind-the-scenes tour in Pilipinas Got More Talent, beginning Monday, 4:45 pm.
