Despite the rising popularity of Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson still reigned as the hottest love team in a recent ABS-CBN.com poll. Kimerald topped the poll with 1,444,308 votes or 99% of the total number of votes, leaving Melason with 8,520 votes or 1% of the total number of votes.
The two love teams each have avid fans not just in the Philippines, but also in other parts of the globe. With the two love teams each having a huge fan base, Jason said there is no reason for them to compete with each other. “Bakit naman kakatakutan e pare-parehas kaming nagtatrabaho? Pare-parehas kaming may mga gustong [marating] at may mga fans.” He also went on to admit that Kim and Gerald are more worthy of their place in showbiz. “Napakalayo pa namin para sa kanila. Kumbaga marami pa kaming kakaining bigas.”
For Melai, there is no need to check who has the bigger fan base. “Bakit naman kailangan bilangin? Ang masasabi ko lang po diyan, siguro hindi naman po talaga paramihan ng fans. Nagkataon lang na bagong labas kami sa Pinoy Big Brother kaya ganun siguro.”
The Kimerald and Melason love teams were both born inside the Pinoy Big Brother house. Kim and Gerald were first introduced in the show’s Teen Edition in 2006, while Melai and Jason were seen in the Double Up season. Kim said that PBB has the power to make superstars out of its housemates. “Iba talaga kapag galing sa PBB,” said the Teen Big Winner.
Gerald expressed his happiness that aside from his tandem with Kim, there is another successful love team that had come out of PBB. “Ayoko maging selfish, gusto ko rin na kung ano ‘yung mga naranasan ko, ano ‘yung mga pinagdaanan ko, ano yung mga naranasan ko na masarap gusto ko rin na maranasan nila."
Kim and Gerald currently star in the primetime teleserye Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo, while Melai and Jason have a continuing reality series Melason in Da City airing weekday mornings. Melai and Jason will soon venture into acting via the teleserye Kokey with Vhong Navarro and Toni Gonzaga and in Impostor with Sam Milby and Maja Salvador.
