Jake Cuenca plays Elias Paniki in the next installment of Agimat: Ang mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla Sr. Jake admitted that he is feeling the pressure brought about by the ratings success of the previous Agimat chapters, which featured actors Gerald Anderson, Jolo Revilla, and Coco Martin. “Nape-pressure talaga kami kasi ‘yung mga nakaraang Agimat talagang successful. Sana itong Elias Paniki pumantay kung hindi man lumampas sa naabot ng naunang mga episode ng Agimat. Hangad namin talaga na makagawa ng isang show na mae-enjoy ng mga viewers.”
Jake clarified that although Elias Paniki is based on the Ramon Revilla Sr. film, the storyline for the TV version had to be modernized for the sake of the young audience. “Napanood ko ‘yung original, nung ‘70s pa yata ‘yun. Kailangan lang gawing modern para mas ma-enjoy ng mga bagets ngayon. Mga bata kasi ang target audience nito. Makikita pa rin ‘yung sinasabing Bertud ng Paniki na nagbibigay kay Elias ng superpowers. Pero ngayon mas kinarir namin ang mga fight scenes to make it more action packed.”
The 21-year old actor-model confessed that he was deeply honored when told that he will be one of the actors chosen to top-bill a chapter in the Agimat series. Taking on a role originally played by Ramon Revilla gives him the chance to pay homage to the movie legend. “Nung una pa lang na inalok sa amin itong Agimat, hindi lang ito trabaho kung hindi reward. Lahat ng lalaking artista gustong mag-action. Nung bata ako na napapanood ko si Ramon Revilla, hindi ko inakalang mabibigyan ako ng pagkakataon ng mai-remake ang isa sa mga pelikula niya. Malaking blessing at karangalan ito para sa akin. Sana kapag napanood nito ni Mr. Ramon Revilla e matuwa siya at masabi niyang nabigyan ko ng hustisya ang kanyang role.”
Prior to shooting Elias Paniki, Jake went through rigorous martial arts training plus acting workshops with other stars in the drama. “Nag-training kami nang husto sa muay thai, wrestling, jiu-jitsu. Sa acting workshop kasama ko naman ‘yung magagaling na aktor like si Baron (Geisler) na gaganap na kontrabida, si Ms. Cherry Pie Picache na nanay ko, at si Mr. Ronnie Lazaro na siyang magbibigay sa akin ng agimat.”
In Elias Paniki, Jake feels lucky to have two beautiful women, Sam Pinto and Kelly Misa, as his leading ladies. Being the more experienced actor, he shared that feels responsible about guiding Sam and Kelly as they shoot scenes together. “Si Kelly kasi at si Sam determinado sila pareho. Kung ano man ang ma set na standard, gusto nilang maabot ‘yun. Personally naga-adjust din ako sa kanila. I try to make work easy for them. Kaya ang saya ng mga taping namin. Bonding talaga kami lahat. So far impressed ako sa performance nilang dalawa. Napaka-natural nila.”
