Jovit Baldivino wins Pilipinas Got Talent
by Napoleon Quintos | June 14, 2010 12:59 AM |

Jovit Baldivino was crowned as the very first grand winner of Pilipinas Got Talent.  Besting the other eleven acts in the grand finals of the top-rating reality talent show, 16 year old Jovit bagged the much coveted two million-peso cash prize. His rendition of Queen’s rock ballad Too Much Love Will Kill You won the hearts of the public, and he earned 48.81%, almost half of all the total votes that came in since the voting was opened following the final performance night last Saturday, June 12.

While the whole Araneta Coliseum cheered over his victory, Jovit burst into tears upon hearing his name being announced by judge Freddie M. Garcia as the winner.  Other judge Aiai Delas Alas shed tears of joy for her fellow Batangueño who from working as a siomai vendor to fend for his family has finally achieved his dream.  Judge Kris Aquino gave Jovit the chance to talk about his win, and despite struggling for words, he thanked all his kababayan in Batangas who supported him, his relatives and friends, and his ‘Jovinatics’ fans.

With two million pesos now in his hands, Jovit would be sticking to his life goal, and that is to provide his family with a comfortable and to send his siblings to school. Kris further asked him on his plans from here on, if there’s a particular showbiz career path that he wants to take or ABS-CBN show that he desires to be a part of.  But Jovit was very much hanging on cloud nine, still uncertain on what to do with the celebrity status that he had achieved because of PGT.

The siomai vendor from Batangas has come a long way ever since he tried out his luck in auditioning for PGT, singing his version of Faithfully by Journey.  With his powerful voice, he was likened by many to the Journey lead singer and Pinoy pride Arnel Pineda became the crowd favorite in the competition.  On the other hand, the other eleven finalists also had the reason to celebrate as they did not come home empty handed.  Runners up dancing groups Velasco Brothers and Baguio Metamorphosis were each given 100,000 pesos, while the rest of the finalists got 50,000 pesos each.
