Gary Valenciano would love to have Jovit Baldivino as a mainstay on ‘ASAP XV’ |

When Gary Valenciano performed during the results night of the Pilipinas Got Talent finale, he was one of the many who was wowed by the singing of finalist Jovit Baldivino, who eventually bagged top honors in the competition. Gary described Jovit as an inspiration to everyone who wants to pursue their dreams. “I think Jovit is a statement to everybody. He is a siomai vendor. But he proved na it doesn’t matter what you are, but with the gift given to you by God [you can do almost anything]. Kapag dumating ang opportunity for you to step up and show your talent, grab it. I’m sure he did not expect for this to happen to him.”
Gary said he welcomes performing with Jovit and the possibility of him becoming a regular performer on ASAP XV. “I would love to perform with Jovit. I just need to prepare kasi mas mataas ang range [ng boses] niya sa akin. But I like the fact that even Arnel Pineda bilib sa kanya. He is young and he has so much to learn and experience. But it seems that he knows so much already. The way life plays out in his life will only enhance his voice.” Gary also believes that Jovit’s budding music career is in good hands with ABS-CBN. “I think his career is all set na. He’s with ABS-CBN so I don’t see anything that can go wrong. He’ll be exposed not just to people around the Philippines also those abroad.”
Sunday musical variety show ASAP XV serves as home to the best and brightest performers in the country. Concert icon Gary, respected as the kuya on ASAP, said the show production team is trying its best to sure that all the artists get equal exposure on stage. “I think it’s a very hard thing to balance. But I guess as the months go back, we are now all open, the artists, production team, the management, to each other. Tsaka seasonal lang naman ‘yan. For a time one artist will shine dahil may bago sa kanya, then the season will go. Although it’s very difficult to balance but for as long as we acknowledge that every artist has the right to shine I think we will be able to find the right time for every artist.”
With over 25 years of music and performing behind him, Gary definitely deserves a special place on ASAP, that’s why he is happy that his creative input is always welcome. “I love sitting down sa brainstorming, noting down all the ideas. ‘Yung ibang ideas hindi nagagawa, pero later on, mga a year after, pwede mong balikan at gawin na. I plan to really sit down and talk to the people behind ASAP so I can contribute.”
Aside from ASAP XV, Gary is also hosting the new show Twist and Shout every weekend night with Martin Nievera. The two of them will also stage a repeat of their As 1 Concert this July 16 at the Araneta Coliseum.
