Charice is not yet ready to have a boyfriend

Filipino pride Charice is currently taking the world by storm. While her hit song “Pyramid,” the debut single from her first international album, is currently dominating music charts in the US and several other countries, she also graced the cover of the latest issue of Reader’s Digest magazine with the title The Making of a YouTube Sensation. As part of the promotions for her album, Charice was in Thailand last July 23 to perform at the Siam Discovery.

Pinoy blogger Carlo Dela Rosa was among those invited to attend Charice’s press conference at the Pullman Hotel and he wrote on his personal website the 18-year-old singer’s answers to reporters’ queries, which he shared with ABS-CBN.com. One question that excited everyone at the press con was if at the age of 18, Charice is ready to have a boyfriend. She laughed before answering, “No, I'm not ready right now because I'm enjoying what I'm doing right now. I'm loving it. Actually that's my boyfriend [music], you know. Sometimes it's heartbreaking, painful, but I'm in love."

Charice was a finalist in the singing competition Little Big Star in 2005 wherein Sam Concepcion emerged as the winner. Her break came much later after videos of her singing on YouTube caught the attention of foreign audiences including American TV host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey. Charice was asked about her feelings for her good friend Sam. “I'm very, very proud naman sa kanya. Very proud sa mga nararating niya ngayon. I actually want to thank him because I saw a video of him singing my song, 'Pyramid.' I felt really happy. Flattered."

She also expressed her desire to work with him if given the chance. “He's really a nice guy. And I'm really, really happy for what he had achieved or what he is achieving right now. You know, of course, I'm still actually wishing and hoping na someday we could have a reunion with the other fellow Little Big Star mates. Because when I did a concert in the Philippines, Sam wasn't there."

Aside from having an impressive and unique singing voice Charice also has an interest in songwriting. She said she wishes she can pen her own songs someday, but for now she would like to leave that job to her renowned mentor and godfather David Foster. "I mean, come on, he's David Foster. I'm just enjoying right now and maybe on the next album."

From joining smalltime singing contests in the Philippines to ruling the music charts around the world, Charice has become the living proof that dreams do come true. She gave out this message to aspiring singers around the globe. “You really have to work hard. Kasi nga pag minadali mo siya, lalo siyang babagal. It gets slower and slower so you have to work hard. You have to do it like… don't just sing it and be like a prima donna like something's going to happen but then you're not moving. You have to move, you have to do it, you have to work hard.”
