They are from different worlds, and yet somewhere along the way they’ve found each other.
For five years, the whole country has seen the worst and the best parts of their love story.
How did the story start? And where does it end?
They first met in February 6, 2005, a dinner with James’s Manager Dondon Monteverde.
James did not waste any time to show Kris that he likes her. He courted her and three months later, they’ve officially become a couple. A power couple that is—with James as The Hard Court King and Kris as The Queen of All Media.
In May 3, 2005 they applied for a marriage license with plans to get married by 2006. We remember Kris saying, “Eto na. This is it. I’ve found a man I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
But Ricky Lo’s scoop in April 5, 2006 revealed that the two got married already through a private civil service ceremony in Boy Abunda’s house. Lo showed an authentic certificate of marriage of Kris and James dated July 10, 2005. Kris confides, “There are certain things talaga na ini-enjoy naming na kami lang ang may alam.”
Everyone saw a beautiful marriage. A couple that was not afraid to show that it’s not perfect. And that’s where the beauty of their marriage comes from. The couple’s love bore a son who will be known to everyone as Baby James.
In February 2007, a beauty clinic employee claimed to have a relationship with James. This shocked everyone. But the couple decided to fight for their marriage.
Last year, when former President Cory Aquino died of cancer, everyone saw how much they supported each other. Even during the presidential elections, they stayed beside each other.
Barely a month after the elections though, speculations that their marriage is on-the-rocks surfaced. On July 17, 2010, Kris confirms that they are no longer together. She says, “With finality, I can say, ako sumuko na.”
