Although JM De Guzman is willing to play daring roles in indie films, he stressed that he’s not yet ready to do a butt or frontal exposure even for the sake of his passion for the arts. “May ginagawa ako ngayong indie film (entitled Una) tungkol sa isang college student na wala pang sexual experience tapos may pinagpapantasyahan siya na babae. Siyempre merong love scene sa script pero hindi siya hubaran. Sinugurado ko na wala po akong ipapakita. Ayaw ko pa muna. Mas gusto ko sana mabigyan ako ng roles na natsa-challenge ako, yung tipong mahirap talaga na role,” he told ABS-CBN.com.

But since he has been doing stage plays for five years already, the 21-year old is already used to portraying offbeat roles every now and then. He knows that it is every actor’s responsibility to deliver the story’s message to the audience the best way they can. “Since bata naman ako sobrang makulit na ako sa art na ito e. Kahit anong sabihin ng ibang tao hindi ko na iniintindi. Minsan nga nagkaroon ako ng role na kailangan kong humalik ng lalaki, pero smack lang naman. So natutunan ko na kapag napamahal ka na sa storya, magko-commit ka in such a way na ‘di mo na maiisip yung mga bagay na ikakahiya mo,” he explained.

JM’s hard work has finally paid off with his recent appearance in Precious Hearts Romances Presents Midnight Phantom as Rafael Rosell’s best friend. A lot of viewers have already noticed his intense acting skills and even predicted that he could really make it in showbiz if given the right break. “Oo, nag-decide ako na itutuloy ko ang pagme-mainstream kasi so far nag-eenjoy talaga ako sa TV. Pero ipinangako ko rin sa sarili ko na hindi pwedeng sa isang taon hindi ako makagawa ng kahit isang indie film at isang play.”

Now that he’s also part of the Star Magic family, JM shared that he decided to set aside his college studies first in order to pursue his dream to be an actor. “Actually nakasama na ako dati sa Star Circle Batch 9 after ko mag-Ang TV. Kaya lang I was too young daw para i-launch at that time. Nalungkot din po ako nun pero inisip ko na parang may kulang pa kaya nagsikap akong matuto sa theater. So ngayon na nandito na ako, handa na ako. Ngayong nakaapak na ako dito, ‘di ko na pakakawalan yung opportunity,” he happily stated.
