Rafael Rosell names Denise Laurel as his favorite leading lady
by Napoleon Quintos | August 12, 2010 8:30 AM |

Rafael Rosell and Denise Laurel continue to make TV screens sizzle, this time in the primetime slot with Martha Cecilia’s Kristine. This is their follow-up to Precious Hearts Romances presents Midnight Phantom, the project that launched them as a love team. Kristine’s director Rory Quintos talked about the Rafael-Denise pair, “They are already an existing love team and I believe that Kristine will strengthen their love team.”

Denise and Rafael have been long-time friends prior to working together in Midnight Phantom. Given that they will be spending more time together, portraying lovers and doing intimate scenes on screen, is it possible that their friendship can develop into romance? “Para sa akin the friendship we have is good enough para makagawa kami ng magandang on-screen chemistry. I’m very superstitious when it comes to stuff like that so iniisip namin if the relationship gets to another level baka masira ‘yung friendship. Kaya whatever we have right now we just want to treasure it. Kung made-develop man ito into something else, hindi ko masasabi. Business first before pleasure,” Rafael replied.

Rafael added that he is flattered by the fact that many viewers, and even the reporters at the press conference of Kristine, are saying that aside from being a love team, he and Denise can also make a good real life couple. “We take it as a compliment. It shows na our love team sells and also approve kami sa isa’t isa. It boosts our confidence as actors. It also opens an opportunity to enhance the friendship.”

When he began his career as an actor, Rafael didn’t like the idea of having a love team. “Before kasi hindi ko lang makita kung paano napapasaya ang mga tao dahil lang sa dalawang taong magka-love team,” he explained. But when his tandem with Denise became a hit among viewers, he realized that part of an actor’s job is entertaining the audience. “When Denise came along we had a good working relationship and nagustuhan kami ng mga tao. I saw na maraming natutuwa sa amin. Our love team gives them enjoyment and hope. For as long as nai-inspire namin ‘yung mga tao okay lang sa akin ang love team.”

The 27-year-old actor has been paired up with many actresses. But of all his leading ladies, Rafael named Denise as his favorite so far, and even likened her to his favorite food. “Si Denise para sa akin ay isang potato. Ever since bata ako favorite ko na ang potato, kahit fried na French fries, boiled, kahit ano. Inaalagaan niya kasi ako tuwing magkasama kami sa set kaya so far sa lahat ng mga naging leading ladies ko siya ang isa sa mga paborito ko. She’s very malambing.”

With the very passionate theme of Kristine, Rafael and Denise had to shoot several sexy scenes. The two good friends however handled those scenes professionally. “Direk gave us instructions and sumunod lang kami ni Denise. Kapag kailangan mas passionate pa, mas rough, sasabihin ni Direk. Kami nina Direk and Denise we just want to make sure that we capture the audience sa mga eksena. Kapag may mali nagtatawanan na lang kami. That’s good kasi kahit puyat at pagod na kami sa taping nakakapagsaya pa rin kami and we get the energy to go on with work.”
