Sam Milby says ‘Idol’ is not a ‘Glee’ rip-off
by Bernie Franco | August 18, 2010 9:02 AM |

It is a dream-come-true for Sam Milby to get to work with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo in the upcoming TV-musical series, Idol. “Lagi kong sinasabi gusto kong makasama si Sarah sa isang movie o teleserye and ang bait-bait niya. Nakakatuwa. We have fun on the set,” shared Sam in an interview done backstage at ASAP XV. Also joining them in the teleserye is indie actor Coco Martin, whom Sam described as a jolly fellow. “First time [ko] to work with Coco din. Sa first eksena na magkasama kami, nagtatawanan lang kami."

Aside from getting along with his co-actors, Sam said that he is really proud of their show's concept. “Lahat kami siyempre very excited kasi malapit na malapit na. Ako I’m very confident na ang ganda ng project na ito. Nage-enjoy ako,” he beamed and added that other members of the cast include very young performers, whom he described as really talented. “Ang galing [they have] so much potential. They are very, very good. Magaling pa sila kesa sa akin,” he joked.

Contrary to some people's impression, Sam clarified that Idol is not a rip-off of the Hollywood TV hit Glee. “Of course it’s going to be compared to Glee. It’s the same concept but they shouldn’t think of it as the Filipino version of Glee kasi hindi ganon. Kasi iba ang story and it’s really, really a nice story, very light. Ganda talaga.”

Aside from Idol and the afternoon teleserye Precious Hearts Romances: Impostor, Sam will soon start working on his second independent film. “It’s called Third World Happy. We haven’t started [shooting yet]. Siguro this week. It’s ready na. Nagkita na kami lahat ng cast, script reading handa na kami.”
