In a world full of uncertainty and change, is there still enough reason to keep faith alive? On its premiere telecast last night on Primetime Bida, May Bukas Pa delivers a promising storyline about hope, love and inspiration from a little orphan boy named Santino (who is played by talented newcomer and commercial model Zailjan Jaranilla). Found abounded as an infant in a cemetery, Santino is adopt by a group of priests in a small town, who all pitch in to raise him as a little boy. The only key to Santino’s identity is a woman’s earring discovered on the baby by Father Anthony (Jaime Fabregas), the head priest. But despite the holy man’s efforts to look for Santino’s mother, no one has come forth to claim him. In another part of town, an unidentified woman’s body is discovered in a ditch and the local police have no leads on who she is. Mario the policeman (Ton-ton Gutierrez) helps in the investigation, but he is also burdened in finding a cure for his sickly daughter and dealing with his headstrong wife Selda (Precious Lara Quigaman).

The town’s most successful businessman Enrique Rodrigo (Albert Martinez) tries to bribe the mayor into turning the local church into a casino resort, but the public official denies the offer. Undeterred, Enrique then goes to sway Father Anthony into turning the land over to him, but his offer is again declined. This enrages Enrique to threaten the priest to watch out in the future for his retribution. Enrique’s ambitious wife Malena is concerned to discover that one of her earrings is missing, could she be the woman the priests are looking for?

Santino grows up happily in the church living with the priests, who raise him as their own. He proves to be a handful, so the priests all decide to scold the little boy. But they accidentally overhear him praying to God about being thankful for all the love the priests have shown him. This softens Father Anthony’s heart and he relents on punishing the boy. But one day, a parishioner says some harsh words to Santino, which makes the little boy confess to Father Jose that he wishes that he could go to heaven already to meet his mother. Father Jose consoles Santino about missing his mother. Will Santino ever find out his true identity? Find out by watching May Bukas Pa, weeknights on Primetime Bida.
