ABS-CBN Publishing honors Cory Aquino with ‘Paalam, Cory: An ABS-CBN Commemorative Special’ |

The Philippines lost an icon of democracy when former President Corazon Aquino passed away last August 1. People poured into the streets to show their sympathies to the Aquino family and to mourn the passing of a woman who managed to bring down a dictator in what the world came to know as the People Power Revolution.
Hundreds of thousands of people lined up for hours alternately in the heat of the day and in intermittent rains just so they could pay their last respects to the former leader. For five days until the late president’s body was interred at Manila Memorial Park, the outpouring of grief and overflow of emotions was unprecedented in Philippine history.
With this, ABS-CBN Publishing (API) decided to pay a tribute to the late former president Aquino with a commemorative magazine entitled Paalam, Cory. API Managing Director Ernie Lopez said that the magazine was a way to honor the woman who had restored the freedom of the press and in no small part, returned ABS-CBN to the Lopezes.
The magazine captures in photos and in text what the five days of grief and renewed national pride brought about. Touching eulogies like those given by Mel Mamaril (Cory’s closed-in security), Kris Aquino, Teddy Boy Locsin, and Noynoy Aquino have also been included, along with some inside stories from the wake and funeral. On the day of interment alone, there were around 16 photographers scattered from Manila Cathedral, along the funeral route, and at Manila Memorial Park to capture images of a nation in mourning who at the same time enjoyed a renewed sense of Filipino pride. Part of the proceeds will go to PinoyME Foundation, Cory Aquino's microfinance advocacy.
In addition to this, an exhibit featuring select images from Paalam, Cory will be held at the South Court of Powerplant Mall, Rockwell in Makati City. Entitled Isang Paalam at Pasasalamat: A Thanksgiving Exhibit, the exhibit will be open to the public from September 1 to 9.
