"Whoever started that intrigue should end it so I can read the ending." This is Megastar Sharon Cuneta's strong statement in response to the growing controversy that her marriage with Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan is on the rocks. The actress made the statement when she arrived at the airport last October 10, Friday, from her vacation in Hong Kong. Apparently trying to avoid getting swarmed by all the press people and cameras about the persistent issue, Sharon only gave a brief reply to their questions. "I'll give you one word…burnout! Burnout!" The couple is allegedly having the biggest fight in their 12 year marriage and the current buzz is that Sharon has already decided to call it quits.
Meanwhile, the senator has denied the rumors a couple of times, without going into details. Last October 9, Friday, when he was asked about the alleged separation, Senator Pangilinan only answered: "Hindi totoo 'yung naririnig na balita. Nasa Hong Kong nga nagsa-shopping, ano ba kayo?"
Suspicion of the incident started when a report in a broadsheet stated that the couple failed to appear at the 92ndanniversary of the Senate last Tuesday, October 7. Sharon and Kiko were slated to do a song number. Senator Pangilinan then sent a text message to the broadsheet saying: "I already said that the reports are inaccurate and untrue." He even said that he was on the way to the airport that day to pick up Sharon from her trip. The politician also said that the Senate party was not a big deal and that he has never attended any anniversary celebration of the Senate ever since he was elected in 2001.
A close friend of Sharon, make-up artist Fanny Serrano, also defended the Megastar and denied the rumors of the breakup. Fanny explained that the couple has what they call 'alone time', where they individually take a vacation to rest and give time for themselves, but it does not mean that they are not in good terms. Fanny further said that after Sharon's vacation, Sen. Kiko will take his own vacation probably in Singapore.
Sandra Chavez, Sharon's manager, also denied that the couple has separated. She also divulged that Mega's entire family is planning to go on vacation in the USA by the end of the month.
Last April, Sharon had an exclusive interview on The Buzz and aired her side on the persistent issue that her husband has had an affair with his secretary, which bore a child. Mega said in her interview that her husband has no other woman and that if he ever did, she would leave him.
