Charice on her detractors: 'Maraming, maraming salamat po sa kanila’

Called “The World’s Most Talented Girl” nonetheless by Oprah Winfrey herself, Charice returned to the Philippines last January 22 after performing in one of the three pre-inaugural events for US President Barack Obama. Charice’s performance of God Bless America earned a standing ovation and was one of the most lauded that night. The young diva says she is soon to return to the US to listen to some songs composer David Foster has written for her. “Nagcompose po si David Foster ng original songs and papakinggan lang po and baka mag-start na rin akong magrecording under Warner Bros.,” Charice said with a smile.

There are rumors that she’ll be starring in her very own TV show produced by Ms. Winfrey. Charice could only say that she would be really thankful if the news really does become a reality. Charice emphasized though that even if international offers are pouring in, she will treat the Philippines as her home base. “Stay lang po ng matagal (in the US) pero ‘di naman po natin alam kung magtatagal ako sa showbiz,” the young singer added.

When Boy Abunda interviewed her live on The Buzz yesterday (January 25) Charice shared that fame has not changed her one bit although she’s trying to get the hang of living the American life. “Sinasabi nila sa akin (her management in the US) tuturuan nila akong kumain ng American food eh baliktad ako yung nagturo sa kanila kumain, ah yung sardines na lalagyan ng suka’t toyo,” Charice shared laughing.

However, the singer’s mood changed when host Boy Abunda asked her how she feels getting all her blessings in a span of only a year. Charice became teary-eyed explaining why God is showering her with everything she has wished for.

As for her detractors, Charice could only thank them for giving her the strength to fight for her dream. And on the rumors that her mom is hard to talk to regarding her guest appearances, Charice said that her mom Raquel has no control over her schedule. She adds that there are people who manage her career in the US and here in the Philippines and they are the ones who turn down invitations to do performances depending on her schedule.
