Veronica is tortured by Major, the leader of the syndicate.
The men plan to dump her body in the river but the other children hide her. Andrea takes Balong to her home where she sees her mother’s wake. She relates what happened to her mother’s partner at work and her godfather, Luis. He quickly organizes a raid at Major’s warehouse. Weng, one of the children, hides with Veronica, not wanting to be taken to the social welfare office. Veronica suggests they go to the police to look for Luis, but they see Major at the station laughing with other policemen. Scared, Veronica wanders the streets for days with Weng. Luis meanwhile, takes his sister Esther and her family, Andrea and Balong to the province as their lives seem to be in danger with Major quickly out of jail. When Veronica decides to return home, she finds the house empty and the gate locked. Veronica becomes fearful of the police and when she sees them roaming the streets, she hides inside a private vehicle. Turns out that Miguel owns the car and much to his and his sister Madonna’s surprise they find the poor girl crouched in the back seat, injured and fearful of her life. Madonna takes Veronica in and is endeared with the girl. Miguel was also distracted from his grief, which makes Rafael appreciative of Veronica’s stay at their home. Soon Miguel decides to adopt Veronica. Years pass and Andrea still could not stop thinking to her ‘sister’ and decides to go to Manila once again to find her.
