Gary pretends to be good now that Lupe is back home.
To prove that he is a changed man, Gary burns the ransom money in front of Lupe, much to Clara’s disapproval. She later learns the money Gary burned was all fake and everything was just an act to please her grandmother. Susan leaves Alvira’s home and stays with CG to show Clara that she is more important to her than Mara. Seeing her parents’ hard fight for justice, Mara sneaks out late that night to talk to Gary. She tries to plead to him to leave her family alone but Gary says he won’t stop until he has Alvira. When Mara tells him her mother would never love someone like him, Gary becomes furious and hits her.
