Ruben Gonzaga is all praises for Ejay Falcon and Bugoy Drilon

PBB Teen Edition Plus hailed Ejay Falcon, a copra worker from Mindoro, as Teen Big Winner while PDA Season 2 proclaimed Bugoy Drilon, a farmer’s son from Bicolandia, as Second Star Dreamer. But before these two folk heroes came along, there was Ruben Gonzaga, a comedian from Davao who opened the doors when he became the first male Big Winner in PBB Celebrity Edition 2.
ABS-CBN.com spoke with Ruben during the cast pictorial of the upcoming teleserye Humingi Ako Sa Langit. In an exclusive interview, Ruben revealed how happy he is now that more ordinary people like him are given the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. “Na-touch ako sa sinabi ni Bugoy na kahit simpleng tao ka lang basta may pangarap ka kayang mong abutin ‘yun.”
Starting out as a comedian for ABS-CBN Davao, Ruben headed to the city to join PBB Celebrity Edition 2. Last January, he beat out celebrities like Yayo Aguila, Baron Geisler, Ethel Booba, and Gaby Dela Merced to become the Big Winner. Ruben captured the hearts of the people with his determination to conquer tough challenges and severe homesickness while inside Kuya’s house.
In PBB Teen Edition Plus, Ejay’s hard work paid off when he won over another crowd favorite, Atenean Robi Domingo, to become Teen Big Winner. Ruben described how he was able to relate to Ejay’s triumph, “Si Ejay, katulad ko rin, simpleng tao lang kami. Pumasok kami ng Bahay ni Kuya hindi naman kami mayaman o sikat. Mula sa ibaba, nangarap kami at pinagsikapan naming tuparin ‘yun. Kahit sino kayang kaya talaga ang buhay.”
Last June, Bugoy became one of the 14 official scholars of PDA Season 2 and eventually bagged second place. Ruben said that he just laughs when people would see similarities between him and Bugoy, “Yung mga kakilala ko ikinumpara ako kay Bugoy. Sinasabihan nila ako na, ‘Para ka namang si Bugoy!’ (laughs) Masaya rin kasi magaling naman talaga si Bugoy. Katulad ko ordinaryong tao lang na nangarap. Masaya ako na marami na kami na nagbibigay encouragement sa mga tao na kaya din nilang matupad ‘yung mga pangarap nila."
