There’s been much buzz about Luis Manzano taking on a gay role in a Star Cinema movie that will also star his mom Vilma Santos and John Lloyd Cruz. In an interview with ABS-CBN.com, the Dyosa star revealed that he had previously turned down the part, but will be attending a second meeting to work out the kinks. “I said ‘no’ na to the movie with my mom and John Lloyd. But now there will be a meeting to see if I will still do it. Kung matuloy, pag-iisipan ko pa kung paano ko ipapasok sa schedule ko. A part of the film will be shot in New York kasi. I initially declined the whole idea of doing movie, but now titingnan pa kung ano ang mapaguusapan sa second meeting,” he said.
Luis had previously said that he doesn’t have a problem playing a gay role, but clarified that he is not yet ready to do a same sex kissing or bed scene. “I’ve always said naman na my two dream roles are: one, a mentally challenged individual, and second is a complex gay character. Hindi lang ‘yung screaming homosexual. Nagkataon na John Lloyd has pretty much done both. Nag-schizo role na siya sa Maalaala Mo Kaya and now he might be doing this movie. Siguro nagkaroon lang ako ng mga personal apprehensions kaya I haven’t given the go signal.” When asked what these “personal apprehensions” were, Luis only replied, “Sa akin na lang ‘yun.”
But the host-actor has no problems about working with his mom and John Lloyd, especially it since it would mean his first movie with the respective Star For All Seasons and the reigning Box Office King. “I would love to work with John Lloyd and of course, my mom because we know how established she is in the industry. The fact that I will not see her as a mother like at home, that I actually get to work with her, do the whole ‘5,4,3,2,1…action!’ thing. ‘Yung ka-eksena ko ang mom ko, that’s really what I’m looking forward to. Si John Lloyd naman I consider him an acting genius. He’s one of the best actors of our generation. I would love to work with him.”
