Kim Jonghyun of South Korean male group SHINee died in a hospital earlier today, December 18.

After his sister found him in an unconscious state at a residence in Southern Seoul, SHINee’s Jonghyun was rushed to a hospital but was eventually declared dead on arrival - multiple South Korean news portals confirmed. According to Dispatch, his older sister said the probable cause of his death was attempted suicide after

finding burning coal briquettes around the area.

Reports also say the singer sent his sister a copy of his suicide note via text, which prompted her to alert authorities.

Idol group SHINee was founded by SM Entertainment in 2008. Members include Onew, Key, Lee Taemin and Hwarang actor Choi Minho.
