<p>The 96th Academy Awards will happen on Monday, March 11, and will be livestreamed exclusively on Disney+ Philippines. Annually, the Oscar ceremony is filled with career-defining moments and record-breaking achievements. This year is no exception. Everyone should keep an eye on films and individuals that could possibly bring home huge and monumental wins.</p><div><br/></div><p>Here is a list of possible historic moments people could witness in the 2024 edition.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/edbd8eb7-76ae-4613-a1d1-5e9126a278b8_96-oscars-12-section-desktop-cover.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/></span></span></div><div><strong>OPPENHEIMER</strong></div><p>Oppenheimer is this year&#x27;s most nominated film with 13. Should it win 11, it will tie Ben Hur (1959), Titanic (1997) and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) with the most wins. Should it win 12 or more, it will set a new record.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/650563f3-8b80-4c6a-891f-38d617d643ea_3.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/></span></span></div><strong>AMERICAN FICTION</strong><p>In American Fiction, Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown play brothers, both garnering Oscar nominations for their performances. Should they both win, it would signify a groundbreaking moment as the first time two African-American male actors triumph together at the Oscars for roles in the same film.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>ANATOMY OF A FALL, PAST LIVES, and THE ZONE OF INTEREST</strong></div><p>Three non-English language films up for Best Picture, namely Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest, could make history with a win in the said category this year.</p><div><br/></div><p>Only one non-English language film has ever won the top prize at the Academy Awards – the South Korean dark comedy Parasite (2020).</p><div><br/></div><p>Anatomy of a Fall uses French, English, and German languages. Past Lives features both English and Korean. Meanwhile, German is predominantly spoken throughout The Zone of Interest.</p><div><br/></div><p>MARTIN SCORSESE</p><p>Martin Scorsese became the most Oscar-nominated living director this year after he secured his 10th nod for the western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon. He is behind the late William Wyler, who holds the record with 12 nominations.</p><div><br/></div><p>Should Scorsese win at the age of 81, he will become the oldest winner in the category, as well.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>CHRISTOPHER NOLAN</strong></div><p>As a director, writer, and producer, Christopher Nolan has eight Oscar nominations to his name, including the three he has this year for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture (for Oppenheimer). Should he win any of his nominations, he will bring home his very first Oscar trophy.</p><div><br/></div><p>For the current awards season, Nolan has amassed wins for both Best Picture and Best Director from the Golden Globes, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice, as well as the Producers Guild and Directors Guild awards, putting him in a very good position to win the same categories at the Academy Awards.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>LILY GLADSTONE</strong></div><p>If Lily Gladstone&#x27;s performance in Killers of the Flower Moon prevails against the competition, she would make history as the first Native American woman to secure the Oscar for Best Actress. In addition, she would mark another milestone by becoming the first individual of Native American descent to clinch an acting Oscar.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/cd65ce8a-d0c0-43f7-9292-f0a5c111c123_1.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/></span></span></div><div><strong>BRADLEY COOPER</strong></div><p>Bradley Cooper is up for three Oscars this year in Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay categories. He could very well take home his very first Oscar statuette. However, should he fail to win any, he will have lost all 12 of his Oscar nods since he was first nominated in 2013 for his performance in Silver Linings Playbook, and will ultimately become one of the most nominated individuals without a win.</p><div><br/></div><p>Sound mixer Greg P. Russell holds the infamous record of having the most nominations (16) without a win. He previously got nominated for his work on Spider-Man films (2002, 2004), Transformers movies (2007, 2009, 2011), and Skyfall (2012).</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>BILLIE EILISH</strong></div><p>Billie Eilish became the first person born in the 21st century to win an Academy Award when she received her Best Original Song honor for No Time to Die in 2022. If she claims the same award, this time for Barbie’s What Was I Made For?, she’ll become the youngest two-time Oscar winner at 22 years old.</p><div><br/></div><p>Currently, the youngest two-time Academy Award winner is Luise Rainer. She was 28 when she collected her second Oscar. She starred in both The Great Ziegfeld (1936) and The Good Earth (1937), winning a pair of acting trophies for her work.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>JOHN WILLIAMS</strong></div><p>Composer and conductor John Williams could become the oldest person to ever win an Oscar if he bags the Best Original Score award for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He is now 92 years old.</p><div><br/></div><p>A frequent collaborator of directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, Williams previously won the Oscar for Best Original Score for his work on Jaws (1976), Star Wars (1978), and Schindler&#x27;s List (1994).</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/2fe66c73-b3a2-4d0c-ab46-76764e6a1271_2.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/></span></span></div><div><strong>THELMA SCHOONMAKER</strong></div><p>Scorsese&#x27;s longtime film editor Thelma Schoonmaker could make history as the winningest person in the editing category if she wins for her work on Killers of the Flower Moon, as this would bring her tally to four.</p><div><br/></div><p>Schoonmaker previously got the Oscar for editing Raging Bull (1980), The Aviator (2004), and The Departed (2006).</p><div><br/></div><div><em>Watch the exclusive livestream of the 96th Academy Awards on March 11 on Disney+ Philippines.
