A new year equals a new watchlist! From action-packed sequels to upcoming romcoms, here are some dramas to stay tuned to in 2024

<p>There’s a lot on deck in terms of K-dramas this year. Like us, you’ve probably just finished &#x27;A Shop for Killers&#x27; and have moved on to &#x27;Doctor Slump&#x27;. The news doesn’t stop coming in, though; we haven’t received from the Kim Soo-hyun/Kim Ji-won pairing yet, and they’ve already announced the Park Bo-gum/IU tandem. To help you keep tabs on what’s coming to the small screen this year, here’s a list of what our team is excited for. It follows the story of Lee Tang (Choi Whoo-shik), a college student freshly discharged from the army with dreams of going to Canada. Contending with the struggles that many young adults go through, he is stuck living with his parents and makes ends meet by working at a convenience store. A violent confrontation with a customer leads him to realize that he has an innate ability to seek justice against truly evil people, which also puts him in the firing line of the skilled detective Jang Nan-gam (Son Suk-ku). The paradox kicks in when one starts questioning whether our main man is an antihero or a villain in the shadows.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>The Impossible Heir - Boasting a record-breaking 20 billion won in investment, this revenge drama that revolves around its main characters trying to take control of Kang Oh Group, Korea’s largest conglomerate. In the lead is Lee Jun-yeong as Kang In-ha, who seeks to join the world of the affluent upon finding out that he is the illegitimate son of a wealthy CEO. Turned away by his newfound relatives due to his status, he calls in the services of his childhood friend Hae Tae-oh (Lee Jae-wook), a ruthless, cold-hearted man whose father was murdered. Joining them is Hong Su-zu as Na Hye-won, the daughter of a debt collector looking to break free from her past. Together, the trio joins forces to stake their claims in the upper echelons of high society.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Queen of Tears - Ah, Kim Soo-hyun can’t seem to get away from the well-dressed, headstrong beauties. The Baeksang Arts awardee goes toe-to-toe with the inimitable Kim Ji-won in the upcoming melodrama Queen of Tears, in which they are to portray a couple who are both partners in marriage and business. Soo-hyun plays Back Hyun-woo, the legal director of Queens Group revered as the supermarket prince. Ji-won is Hong Hae-in, a third-generation chaebol and the director of Queens Department Store. This also marks Soo-hyun reuniting with writer Park Ji-eun, who penned the scripts for My Love from the Star, The Producers, and the beloved Crash Landing on You. We can’t wait to see the KimKim couple’s chemistry onscreen! </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Squid Game 2 - The long wait continues, but it has finally been confirmed that the sequel to this gripping global phenomenon is airing this year—and with a lot more Gong Yoo, if the previews are anything to go by. When Squid Game premiered in 2021, audiences worldwide were captivated by the sobering, relatable storyline and the noteworthy performances of its ensemble cast, led by the inimitable Lee Jung-jae. Season 2 seems to take off right where we last saw Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun: at the airport with a shock of bright red hair, on the phone with a mysterious man saying, “You’re going to regret the choice you made.” Joining him for the next round are Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and, of course, Gong Yoo. Newcomers include Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young, among others. </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Gyeongseong Creature Part 2 - It seems like only yesterday that we were binge-watching this literal creature feature throughout the holidays! Season 1 ended on such a stressful cliffhanger that it was extremely gratifying to know that a sequel was indeed underway. Pawnshop owner Jang Tae-sang (Park Seo-joon) and sleuth Yoon Chae-ok (Han So-hee) were such a force onscreen, taking us on an emotional rollercoaster as they came face-to-face with a horrifying biological experiment in the bowels of Ongseong Hospital. Their insane chemistry amped up the killing factor, too, which only has viewers hoping that they find a way to safety and happiness in season 2. Moving the show from a World War II setting to modern-day Seoul is a question that demands so many answers, but &#x27;til the premiere, we’ll just have to wait.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>When Life Gives You Tangerines - K-drama fans all over the world must have jumped out of their seats at the prospect of Lee Ji-eun/IU and Park Bo-gum finally pairing up for a drama. Taking place in 1950s Jeju, this slice-of-life drama is set to evoke a sense of nostalgia that will have those born in that time looking back on their youth. IU plays Ae-soon, a bold, spirited rebel who dreams of becoming a poet, but cannot attend school due to her family’s financial struggles. Bo-gum plays the diligent and sincere Gwan-sik who is smitten with Ae-soon and is loyal to her alone. Veteran actors Moon So-ri and Park Hae-joon play the older version of the characters. In addition, Kim Seon-ho is also set to make a special appearance. We can’t wait for more information; this is one to watch out for sure! </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Everything Will Come True - Not only is this a pleasantly surprising reunion between Uncontrollably Fond couple Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy, but also another project by the prolific Kim Eun-sook, who had written the scripts for The Glory, Descendants of the Sun, Mr. Sunshine, Goblin, and many other dramas. Suzy plays Ga-young, a woman who is described to lack emotion. Somehow, she summons Genie (Woo-bin) from a lamp, and is tasked with the boon—or burden—to make three wishes. That’s all that has been said about this project so far, but we’re keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more updates. </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Wonderful World - This upcoming drama form MBC follows the story of Eun Soo-hyun (Kim Nam-joo), a psychology professor and writer who is working on unraveling the mysteries that led to her son’s death. She falls into a state of depression after this loss and embarks on a path of revenge. It marks the prolific actress’ small screen comeback after six years away; she was last seen in the mystery melodrama Misty in 2018. Astro’s Cha Eun-woo is Kwon Seon-yul, a warm-hearted young man with a cool exterior who will play a pivotal role in Soo-hyun’s life. </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Begin Youth - Fans of idol group BTS are familiar with the BTS Universe, a fictional world stitched together by BigHit Music and HYBE that is interconnected through music videos, short films, and the Save Me webtoon. It began during The Most Beautiful Moment in Life era and a drama called Begin Youth is now in the works. The story begins with how Kim Seokjin’s character (Seo Ji-hoon as Kim Hwan) meets the six other boys, each of whom learn how to overcome their individual struggles as they form an unbreakable bond of friendship.
