MANILA – Claudine Barretto’s nephew released a statement on Wednesday to give an update on the current health condition of the actress.

The statement was issued a day after Claudine revealed on her Instagram page that she will be undergoing surgery.

According to Cholo Barretto, Claudine has always had issues regarding her blood since she was a child.

“Her white blood cells are very high & her red blood cells are extremely low. Which is why she is vulnerable and prone to infection,” he said.

This was the reason the actress had to be operated on her lower left leg, Cholo said. Following the operation, the Barretto family is asking for prayers for Claudine’s immediate recovery.

“We would like to thank everyone for respecting our family's privacy and for the love, most especially to her Claudinians and Palanggas. We would appreciate your continued prayers for her full recovery. Maraming salamat po,” he said.

Just last month, Claudine spent a week at the hospital and had to celebrate Mother's Day there. Her fans sent get-well-soon messages to the actress, as they prayed for her swift recovery.
