The Legal Wife sparks passionate reactions Philippine viewers

What if your husband cheated on you with your own best friend? On this premise rests ABS-CBN’s hit primetime TV drama series “The Legal Wife,” which has sparked discussions online and offline as viewers relate to main protagonist Monica (Angel Locsin) and her struggles in keeping her family intact after her husband Adrian (Jericho Rosales) had an affair with her own best friend Nicole (Maja Salvador).

The compelling turn of events in the lives of Monica, Adrian, and Nicole has captured viewers' interest, making it one of the consistent top-rating soaps on Philippine primetime TV today, even hitting more than 25% in national TV ratings or above the average viewership recorded for its 10 PM time slot.

It has been a daily habit for viewers to talk about it online, making “The Legal Wife” a regular trending topic on Twitter worldwide, and to talk about it amongst friends, family, and colleagues the next day wherever they may be. Some would even catch up on the episodes they missed via video-on-demand site iWantTV.

Filipino fans would voice out how much they hated Nicole and Adrian and how they want Monica to teach the two a lesson for their infidelity.

The show was such a phenomenon that “The Legal Wife” was able to hit an all-time high national TV rating of 29.2% last April 24, or almost double its rival program’s rating of 15%.

Memes also went viral online as netizens make fun of the show’s memorable scenes or lines from the soap.
Apart from its the compelling storyline, “The Legal Wife” also enjoys a massive following because of its top caliber cast composed of sought-after Filipino actors Maja Salvador and JC De Vera, Asian superstar Jericho Rosales of “The Promise” and International Emmy nominated actress Angel Locsin of “She-Wolf.”

“The Legal Wife” airs on Philippine television weeknights, 10 PM, on ABS-CBN.
