MANILA - The rainy season is now in progress, state weather bureau PAGASA declared on Tuesday.In a press briefing, PAGASA deputy administrator of operations Dr. Landrico Dalida Jr. said the recent changes in the weather, particularly the widespread rainfall in the past few days, manifest the shift from dry to wet season.&quot;The onset of the rainy season associated with the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, is now in progress,&quot; Dalida said.&quot;Yes, tama, tag-ulan na po,&quot; added Anthony Joseph Lucero, assistant weather services chief.&quot;It&#x27;s in progress. We don&#x27;t need to finish up all the observations before we announce it... It&#x27;s about time to tell everybody that the rainy season is now in progress.&quot;The officials said wet conditions are expected to continue and become more widespread in the coming days, especially in the afternoon.Various parts of Metro Manila have been experiencing flooding in the past days due to heavy rains.<div>EL NINO OUT, LA NINA IN</div>According to PAGASA, the El Niño condition is expected to end by July. The La Niña weather phenomenon, on the other hand, is expected to develop by August.Esperanza Cayanan, weather division chief, said around 8 to 17 tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippines until October.Stronger typhoons are expected to hit the country in the last quarter of 2016, she added.&quot;Ang mas maraming bagyo, on the average, is usually July and nagpi-peak sa August. But then yun pong malalakas na bagyo at marami pong damage, nararanasan po natin sa last quarter of the year, so October, November, December.&quot;&quot;Since meron po tayong projection or inaasahang La Niña, mas ine-expect po natin na mas maraming pag-ulan tayong mararanasan,&quot; said Cayanan.<div>DAMS</div>PAGASA also assured the public that the different dams in the country are still far from their spill levels.As of 6 a.m. today, water level at Angat Dam is at 186.32 meters, Ipo Dam at 100.75 meters, La Mesa Dam at 78.97 meters, and San Roque Dam at 240.48 meters.Dalida assured that PAGASA will be in close coordination with the Office of Civil Defense while he urged the public to also prepare for the La Niña weather phenomenon.
