MANILA- Film director Joyce Bernal said Monday she wants to set a "hopeful" mood when people watch President Rodrigo Duterte's 4th State of the Nation Address.

Bernal, who inspected the House of Representatives Plenary Hall Monday, said she wants the area to look brighter for Duterte's July 22 report to the public.

"I want it hopeful and good, yung parang masaya (one that looks cheerful)," she said.

Asked on how she plans to direct Duterte, Bernal said she only plans to give the chief executive small reminders on his speech delivery.

"Hindi ko po siya kayang i-direk kasi siya yung President so sasabihan ko lang siya ng mga small things gaya po ng 'sir, dahan-dahan sa English dahil kahit po ako hindi maka-cope'," she said.

(I can't direct him because he is the President so I will just remind him of the small things like to slow down with his speaking because even I can't cope with his English.)

Bernal is also planning to put a weave from Mindanao on the podium where President Duterte will deliver his speech but the plan needs to be allowed by the Presidential Security Group and the House.

Around 20 cameras will be positioned around the plenary hall for the President's SONA this year.

Bernal, who first directed Duterte's SONA last year, succeeded acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza, who handled the President's first 2 SONAs.
