Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday said the Philippines&#x27; dispute with Malaysia over Sabah or North Borneo got in the way of attempts to locate dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo following her escape last year.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/3/4/hontiveros-warns-bi-of-revamp-for-still-not-knowing-how-alice-guo-escaped-1454">Hontiveros warns BI of revamp for still not knowing how Alice Guo escaped</a></div><p>Remulla said that Malaysia refused to cooperate with the Philippines&#x27; Bureau of Immigration officials as Guo fled the country at the height of congressional investigations on the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO) in the country. </p><p>“The case of Alice Guo is a peculiar case, because Malaysia refused to cooperate with us, Malaysia was supposed to give us information, they know how that flight entered, that aircraft entered, where she was riding but they refused to give it to us, for some reasons that were alluded to about the cases of our brothers in the South,” Remulla said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay Forum.</p><p>Asked if he was referring to Sabah, Remulla said yes.</p><p>Remulla admitted that the Department of Justice (DOJ), which oversees the BI, encountered a major roadblock even if they also sought the assistance of the Department of Foreign Affairs.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/3/18/ilang-ahensya-inaming-wala-pa-ring-impormasyon-kung-paano-nakatakas-si-alice-guo-2148">Ilang ahensya inaming wala pa ring impormasyon sa kung paano posibleng nakatakas si Alice Guo</a></div><p>“Lahat ginawa na namin (We did all we could), we were already at the DFA level, we have faced a stonewall,” Remulla said.</p><p>Remulla also appealed to Sen.
