The Creamline Cool Smashers and the Banko Perlas Spikers go for the jugular against the Ateneo-Motolite Lady Eagles and the PetroGazz Angels respectively today (December 8) as the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference troops to the Batangas City Coliseum. The matches will air LIVE on free TV on ABS-CBN S+A and on cable on LIGA, S+A HD, and LIGA HD, and online via sports.abs-cbn.com, the iWant app, and on iwant.ph starting at 1:45 pm.

The Cool Smashers stamped their class on the Lady Eagles in the first game, showing the kids who’s boss in a one-sided affair, 25-17, 25-10, 25-15. Former Queen Eagle Alyssa Valdez did not go easy on her alma mater as she pummeled them for 14 markers while she had ample help from the likes of Michele Gumabao, Jema Galanza, and Risa Sato.

Ateneo was led by their big three in Bea De Leon, Maddie Maddayag, and Kat Tolentino, who were each limited to single digits as the young squad displayed tentativeness in a high stake match.

However, PVL analyst Charo Soriano believes both the Cool Smashers of coach Tai Bundit and the Lady Eagles of coach Oliver Almadro will be able to adjust come Game 2 as they have shown ability to adjust on the fly and take corrective courses of action to turn the tide in their favor on their way to the championship round.

“During the eliminations, both these teams had the misfortune of not having some of their players during games, but both of them prevailed, and they reached the Finals to have this series,” she said.

Meanwhile, the BanKo Perlas Spikers and the PetroGazz Angels dispute the third place slot again after the Spikers took the series opener 25-14, 28-26, 10-25, 25-19. Dzi Gervacio led BanKo with 20 points to put them one win away from another podium finish, but Stephanie Mercado and the Angels are planning to stage a comeback to force a rubber match.
