ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Bantay Kalikasan (BK) marks its 20th anniversary with the launch of Batang Bibo ng Kalikasan – a music video that encourages children and the general public to do their part, big or small, for the environment, featuring child celebrities Xia Vigor, Chunsa Jung, Xymon “Onyok” Pineda, and Marco Masa.

Xia, Chunsa, Onyok, and Marco performed the song for the first time yesterday (January 28) in “Umagang Kay Ganda” to kick-off the activities in celebration of BK’s two decades of promoting environmental awareness, and implementing projects that address the worsening air and water pollution, denudation of forests, irresponsible waste disposal, and their life-threatening effects in the Philippines.

In the song, the young ambassadors of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya’s Bantay Kalikasan discourage the public to use single – use plastic and instead, use lunch boxes, tumblers and other containers that can be re-used. They also encouraged people and their fellow children to plant more trees and vegetables on their own backyards.

According to World Animal Protection, eighty percent (80%) of microplastics are land – based sources like [water] bottles and [plastic] bags. Tons of plastics have clogged the tributaries, causing massive floods, which killed many. The same plastics also caused many endemic species of sea animals dead.

The launch of the music video and the Batang Bibo ng Kalikasan campaign coincides with the declaration of January as the Zero Waste Month. BK also also held a Recyclables Event at the Center Road of ABS-CBN Compound last January 28 where employees and visitors were encouraged to donate their used PET bottles, papers, cartons, styro, metal objects, defective office supplies (calculator, stapler, pens), empty glass bottles and aluminium waste (canned drink).
