“Global Pinoy Idol New Zealand” honors heroic acts of OFs in Asia

Eventgoers also get to join and learn from the life and financial coaching happening before the main program

Nowadays, our lives pass by quickly that we find it hard to just stop and take a moment to look at the people around us: Does that group of tourists need directions? Does the old person at the corner shivering because of the cold or due to hunger? Does that child quietly cry for help?

But there are people, like some overseas Filipinos, who despite the everyday challenges of living abroad, still find time to lend a helping hand. These are the overseas Filipinos that ABS-CBN Corporation hopes to recognize through the “Global Pinoy Idol New Zealand.”

Global Pinoy Idol New Zealand”--organized by ABS-CBN’s official AM radio station DZMM in partnership with TFC, the flagship brand of its international arm, ABS-CBN Global--aims to pay tribute to the overseas Filipinos who through their small acts of kindness make a difference to the lives of others.

Global Pinoy Idol New Zealand” first recognized overseas Filipinos from Dubai and London in 2018, and this March from Madrid. This is the first time that the “Global Pinoy Idol” will be giving recognition to the inspiring overseas Filipinos in Asia and the Pacific as they fly to New Zealand. The event will happen on August 10 at the Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall, Auckland Live, 303 Queen Street, in Auckland, New Zealand.

“The small acts of kindness of these everyday heroes are often unseen. Through the Global Pinoy Idol, we want to put the spotlight on them even for just a day to thank them on behalf of the people whose lives they have touched,” said DZMM Head Marah Faner-Capuyan.

"Global Pinoy Idol New Zealand" is also the leadoff project of TFC News, the recently launched digital news platform of ABS-CBN News in the Asia Pacific that aims to gather and deliver stories that will serve as the voice of the Filipinos in the region, that are reported by their fellow overseas Filipinos.

“We at TFC are grateful to partner with DZMM to bring an event such as the Global Pinoy Idol, where we do not just recognize the heroic acts of the overseas Filipinos, we also share their stories that bring inspiration to their fellow Filipinos all over the world through our digital news platform, TFC News,” said ABS-CBN Global Managing Director for Asia Pacific Maribel Hernaez.

Aside from recognizing and sharing the inspiring stories of the “Global Pinoy Idol New Zealand” honorees, DZMM’s Tulong Ko Pasa Mo hosts Vic and Avelynn Garcia will give a talk that focuses on starting a business, preparing for retirement, managing relationship with family and friends, and unleashing one’s potential.

While providing entertainment for everyone are “Tawag ng Tanghalan sa It’s Showtime” judge Randy Santiago, and actor Arjo Atayde who was part of the series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” and is currently portraying Elai in the series “The General’s Daughter”. While serving as host for the pre-program activities is DZMM anchor Ahwel Paz, while hosting the main program is “TV Patrol” anchor and “Salamat Dok” host Bernadette Sembrano.
