Award-winning student docus start airing on Knowledge Channel on May 8

Award-winning student mini-documentaries about an Aeta teacher who walks for hours to get to her class, the endangered heritage of Kapampangan’s writing system, and four children who use “salbabida” or life-savers in crossing a river daily to go to school will air on Knowledge Channel’s “Class Project” this May.

These are the top three mini documentaries from University of Makati that dominated the “Class Project: Intercollegiate Mini-Documentary Competition” organized by ABS-CBN, Knowledge Channel, and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE).  Along with seven other finalists, they will air on Knowledge Channel’s "Class Project Winners' Festival" starting May 8, Friday, at 7:30 PM.

University of Makati's "Titser Gennie," a documentary about an Aeta teacher who treks to her class for four to five hours in Sitio Tarukan in Capas, Tarlac to teach Aeta children, leads the line-up and airs on May 8. It airs back-to-back with second place winner, “Kulitan”, also from the University of Makati,  which tackles the Kapampangan indigenous writing system.

Third-placer University of Makati’s "Mga Batang Anipa,”  tells the story of  four children who persistently go to school every day wearing rubber slippers and using “salbabida” to cross the river, meanwhile, will air on May 15.

These and the rest of the finalists in the contest will air on Knowledge Channel until June, and will soon be made available on iWant.

Seven other documentries made it as finalists and will also be airing on Knowledge Channel. These are: ”Binhi” from Palawan State University, also airing on May 15, “City Painted in Red” from Saint Louis University and “Ang Munting Karera ni Vash” from University of Makati, both on May 22, “Iskolar ng Merkado” from Palawan State University together with “Hiling sa Dapithapon” from Lyceum of the Philippines University - Laguna on May 29, “Aruga” from Urdaneta City University showing on June 5, and “Hachiko ng Lapu-lapu" from Cebu Normal University, also premiering on June 5.

The annual “Class Project Intercollegiate Mini-Documentary Competition” is part of ABS-CBN’s advocacy to support future media practitioners by giving communications and media students a chance to hone their filmmaking skills and have their documentaries showcased to a wider audience.

Don’t miss the “Class Project Winners Festival” featuring the ten finalists of the “Class Project: Intercollegiate Mini-Documentary Competition" starting this Friday (May 8) at 7:30 pm, on the Knowledge Channel - channel 7 on ABS-CBN TVplus, channel 5 on SKYcable, and channel 12 on SKYdirect.
