MANILA, Philippines – TNT veteran point guard Jayson Castro has high praises for Barangay Ginebra rookie RJ Abarrientos.

Castro, 38, said Wednesday that he believes Abarrientos will dominate the guard position in "two to three years," given his performance in the PBA playoffs.

However, it was Castro who outshone the young gun as he helped TNT cruise to a commanding 2-0 lead in the 2024 PBA Governors' Cup Finals.

"For sure, maraming pahihirapan 'yung bata na 'yun. After two to three years, makikita natin kung paano niya ido-dominate 'yung guard position," Castro said. "Kasi ngayon pa lang, nakikita mo na, lalo na 'yung sa San Miguel na series nila."

The 38-year-old ka-Tropa said Abarrientos currently has a better rookie year campaign.

"Mas magaling siya sa akin kasi kung makikita niyo ‘yung rookie year ko at rookie year niya, sobrang mas high-level ‘yung pagka-rookie niya. Given na ‘yun kasi di ba nakita naman natin si RJ, sobrang galing talaga. Hindi lang dito, pati sa Korea. Siya pa nga ‘yung naging Rookie of the Year [doon], 'di ba?" Castro said.

The former Gilas Pilipinas stalwart was "thankful" for the respect from Abarrientos as he concluded his compliments to the former Far Eastern University Tamaraw.

"Sobrang thankful din ako na at least, ‘yung respect na ganun mula sa mga rookie— as a veteran. Pero, 'yun nga, in terms nung rookie ako at rookie niya, mas magaling siya. Sobra, as in. Hindi niyo natatanong, sobrang gustong gusto ko siya maglaro."

TNT and Ginebra will clash again in Game 3 on Friday, November 1, at the Araneta Coliseum.
