Job-hunting nurse gets hired on the spot, wins new house and lot

BAGUIO - A 25-year-old nurse received the surprise of her life.Aside from successfully landing a job, she hit the jackpot in the Cordillera Department of Labor and Employment Labor Day Job Fair on Tuesday.Joyce Mae Ridual, from Santo Tomas, La Union, said she was initially hesitant to participate in the job fair and was only obligated by her mother. To her surprise, her resumé got a thumbs-up from a company offering overseas employment for registered nurses. The agency&#x27;s recruitment officer said her credentials are enough to qualify her for the job.Prior to her job fair application, Ridual had been unemployed for five months following her completion of a 2-year contract as a nurse in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.Ridual said she wasn&#x27;t even aware of the Pag-IBIG Fund-sponsored draw for a house and lot at the end of the fair.&quot;Nung tinawag na iyung number, nagulat na lang po ako at saka iniisip ko po kanina, hindi ko ata nasulatan yung ticket, iyun pala wala palang name, number lang pala. Nung inaanounce na yung number ko, hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala,&quot; she said.Ridual said that right before the draw, she walked to the Baguio Cathedral and said a prayer. For her, winning &quot;was God&#x27;s will&quot; and not only a matter of luck.&quot;Ito po ay may patimpalak po ang PAG-IBIG. Naswertehan po ng Cordillera Administrative Region kasi binunot po sa Maynila ng PAG-IBIG. Among all the other regions, tatlo po ang house and lot na pina-raffle,&quot; said DOLE Regional Director Ezekiel Guzman. In total, there were 3,824 job seekers who participated in the job fair. Of this number, 544 were hired on the spot.
