Before she conquered the acting world, Aya Fernandez was a young beauty queen. She was crowned as Miss Teen Earth 2015 and competed on the international stage as Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International 2018. Kaila Estrada, although not into pageantry, has the stature and wit of a beauty queen. With that, Kapamilya Chat dared the <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/viralscandal">Viral Scandal</a> stars to a pageant-like Q and A game that showcased their queenly disposition, intelligence, and public speaking skills. The first question was the one asked to Miss Universe 1969 titleholder Gloria Diaz, “If a man from the moon lands in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?” Aya would take the opportunity to flex the warmth of Filipino people, as well as our local delicacies, “If a man land from the moon and came into my community, I would offer him my home, offer him buko juice, a cold one kasi feeling ko mainit from outer space. That’s how I’d entertain him – offer him Filipino food and the hospitality of the Filipino people.”Kaila would promote our country’s tourism, “If a man land from the moon into my hometown, I would also offer him my home. After that, I will take him to one of our beautiful beaches in the Philippines kasi I think, kumbaga ‘yung ginto ng Pilipinas is ‘yung natural resources natin.”Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran’s answer to the question “Let’s make believe that all of a sudden you had a million dollars, what’s the first thing that you buy and why would you buy it?” was simply to buy house and lot. Well Aya and Kaila took it to the next level by talking about their advocacies.Aya answered, “Wow! Million dollars times fifty-two, ang dami n’un! If all of a sudden I have a million dollars, I would buy a conference hall first because I will set up a series of meetings with the scientists in the country. I’d like to discuss problems with them and where else I could fund my money for their research for us to be able to build a sustainable community and cities.”Kaila replied, “First, I would buy a house for my mom and for each of my siblings. Then, I would donate to different organizations that I believe in and share the same advocacies with. Of course, I’ll save the rest and invest para hindi ko na kailangan mag-work.”“Confidently beautiful with a heart,” said Pia Wurtzbach’s now-iconic closing line in her answer to “Why should you be the next Miss Universe?” But Aya’s words are just as powerful, saying, “I think I should be the next Miss Universe because I will use my platform to be the voice of the voiceless. I won’t be a representation of women of beauty and brains, or beauty inside and out. I would be a representation of women in action, someone who walks her talk, someone who transcends her action into crating significant change.”Next question was “What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life and how would you apply it to your time as a Miss Universe?” Catriona Gray’s winning answer in 2018 focused on gratitude.But Aya’s response was also very much profound, “I think the most important lesson I’ve learned in life is that the greatest form of empowerment is being able to empower other people. If ever I would be given that kind of platform, as what a Miss Universe title would have, I would use that lesson na it will never be about you. It was never about you. It will be about your influence. It’s about the impact that you would be able to make using that influence that you have.”And so that of Kaila, which is about being confident even when not everybody likes you, “Lagi ko rin siyang dala-dala is what my mom told me, as an artista na lang din, sabi niya sa akin is you can’t please everybody, so don’t even try because you cant. Growing up a people-pleaser, it was a thing that was very difficult for me to accept. Especially to be in an industry like this, you want everyone to accept you and to love you. But harsh reality is not everyone will. And that’s okay with me. I accept that as long as I am not hurting anyone and I am being true to myself and true to whoever I’m around, then that’s the only important thing.”For the final round, Aya and Kaila took on recently-crowned Miss Universe-Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi’s question, “If you could stop time for a day, how would you spend it?” Aya’s answer was related to politics and corruption, “If I could stop time for a day, I would go to the bank and open the account of our corrupt leaders, and then get the money from their bank accounts and return it to the Filipino people, who originally owned the money that they have stolen.”Meanwhile, Kaila kept it simple yet sincere, “If I could stop time for a day, I would spend it with all my loved ones as in go around the world together. Lahat ng nasa bucket list namin gagawin ko kasi what I realized in the pandemic is that time is so precious.
