112813-KathNiel.jpgWith a top-rating soap and an upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival horror entry in the works, in-demand actress Kathryn Bernardo has opted to put her studies on hold by deferring to enroll this second semester.

According to the Marketing major freshman from Enderun Colleges during a recent visit on the set of Got to Believe, she had really thought through her decision. “Hindi ako nag-enroll this sem. Matagal ko ‘yung inisip actually kung mag-e-enroll ako kaya lang may Pagpag kasi and Got to Believe tapos aasikasuhin ko ‘yung sa debut ko so inisip ko hindi ko talaga kaya,” she revealed.

But the actress who’s turning 18 on March 26 next year quickly blurted, “Pero promise ko sa sarili ko na babalik ako!

Kathryn shared that being a part-time actress and part-time student has lent her some perspective about sacrifice and dedication. “Actually mahirap siya i-balance. Doon ko na-realize na mas lalo akong sumaludo sa mga artistang napapagsabay kasi ang hirap pala. Hindi siya joke, seryoso,” she said.

She calls the effort of studying and working at the same time as “isang malaking sacrifice… Siguro kasi imbes na mag-rest ka gagawin mo ‘yung homework mo or mag-aral ka sa set. Tapos sa rest day mo medyo konti lang ang tulog mo talaga, so more on sacrifice talaga para magawa mo ‘yung mga bagay ng sabay,” she explained. She added, “Nairaos ko naman ‘yung isang sem and hopefully makabalik ako ulit.”

Enderun Colleges is mostly known as a culinary school, why did she take marketing instead of culinary arts? “‘Yun lang siguro ‘yung close sa gusto ko kasi ang tagal ko ngang na-realize kung ano ‘yung kukunin ko and last minute ko ng naisip na marketing nalang kasi feeling ko doon ako papunta in 10 years from now,” she said.

However, Kathryn is not completely closing her doors on learning other things in the future. “Kung may free time ako siguro gusto ko mag-aral ng photography. Marami eh. Gusto kong mag-aral ng wine tasting, ng baking, marami actually. ‘Pag may time,” she underscored with a laugh.

Meanwhile, her 18-year-old onscreen love team partner Daniel Padilla, who’s also supposed to be in college, shared that he, too, plans to be back in school soon. “Siguro kung pilitin kong mag-aral hindi ako makakapag-concentrate, so siguro ayusin ko muna ‘yung schedule ko para maluwag. Siguro after nitong Got to Believe,” he said.

He admitted though that he has yet to decide what course he should take up and which school he should go to.
