Toni Gonzaga on sibling rivalry issue with Alex: 'Pinalaki kami sa tahanan na walang inggitan'

Although some people keep on pitting them against each other, Toni Gonzaga was ecstatic now that her sister Alex is back on the Kapamilya network. It somehow gives her peace of mind knowing that her sibling is just close by. “Siyempre masaya ako kasi gusto ko siya makasama sa isang programa, sa isang network kasi kahit magkapamilya kami sa totoong buhay, gusto ko talaga siya maging kapamilya,” said Toni in an interview with Push.com.ph.

When asked about the rumors that Alex moved back to ABS-CBN because of certain conflicts with the management in her former network, the actress-host maintained that it’s best to ask her sister about it. On her part, she never interfered with Alex’s career decisions as long as she’s happy with what she does.

If anything, she just reminds her sibling to make the most out of the blessings being thrown her way. “Always be grateful. I always tell her, ‘It’s not about you, it's about giving glory to God dahil pinahiram lang sayo ‘yan. Anytime kayang kayang bawiin sa ‘yo ‘yan.’ Yun ang laging sinasabi sa amin ng mga magulang namin. Hindi lahat ng meron kayo ngayon, hindi sa inyo ‘yan. Pinapahiram lang sa inyo ‘yan. Pwedeng paggising niyo kinabukasan, pwedeng bawiin lahat sa inyo ng Diyos. Ayun. Handa naman kami sa mga ganon.”

As for speculations about possible sibling rivalry between them, Toni stressed that she has no problem with the fact that Alex is also inclined to do hosting and acting just like her. “Wala, kapatid ko naman yun eh. Pinalaki naman kami sa tahanan na walang inggitan sa aming magkapatid. Kasi lagi sinasabi sa amin ng mommy at daddy namin, dalawa lang kami kaya magsuportahan na lang kami. At the end of the day, kami lang din naman maiiwan sa isa’t isa.”

Toni posted a photo on her Instagram account of the two posing in front of a lake during their trip in the States last year. She further shared that that they’ve always been close to each other even as kids. “Oo, yung caption ay ‘for life.’ Kasi bata pa lang kami na-brainwash na kami ng mga magulang namin na magmahalan kayong magkapatid, huwag kayo magaaway lalo na sa pera at sa inggitan.”

To this day, the two would often jokingly bicker about how Alex often borrows clothes from Toni’s extensive closet and even cash way back when she wasn’t active in showbiz yet. Toni went on to say what their parents instilled in them when they were young. “Kung ano meron kapatid mo, sa ’yo rin yun dahil meron siya. Kung anong meron sa ate mo, sa ’yo rin dahil magkapatid kayo. True enough pareho kayo ng size ng paa, size ng baywang, size ng sapatos…iisa ang mga damit naming lahat. O kita mo,” she cheerfully exclaimed.
